Flick Of The Wrist

Once upon a time I could check the time or progress of an activity with a simple flick of the wrist... the screen would light up. Now, each and every time, I have to push the button on the left side of the screen, which is surprisingly annoying.

Also on a regular occasion my Fitbit doesn’t  show any gps activity after a jog or running.

Is it it time replace my Fitbit with a Garmin.

Hold in the left button a few seconds.  Look for 'Screen Wake'.  Tapping toggles it between Manual and Auto.  You want it in Auto.

On the Charge 4, I found I needed to toggle "Sleep" off first.

You are correct.  On the trackers now with 'Sleep Mode', being in Sleep Mode also prevents Screen Wake.
