GPS Automatic Setting Of Time When Changing Timezones

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I own the Blaze and travel a great deal around the world and it's convenient to have the Blaze get updated time from my phone soon after landing in a new country and syncing to the local time that the watch provides via bluetooth. Wondering if the Ionic does this autonomously, i.e., without a phone...say in a country where my phone does not have service or i don't have a phone plan and just want to have an accurate watch with the local time.

It's great to have you here @Bill_Hunt! Fitbit Ionic will work exactly the same as Blaze regarding having the automatic timezone, it needs to be enabled in your phone and then once you travel; it should update based in the country that you're in just as your phone.

You need to have internet connection and Bluetooth on, in order for your tracker to update the settings. Currently, it won't update on its own.

Hope this helps! You can learn more about Fitbit Ionic here. Robot Happy

I am having the same problem. I even tried removing the Ionic as a device and then adding it again, and that didn’t work. I also can’t find a basic “set clock” function on the watch itself. I noticed this seems to be a problem with all the Fitbit devices and frankly find it unacceptable. It’s a watch - the first thing it needs to do is tell me the time. I do hope someone replies with a solution.

Just to be sure, have you enabled location preferences for Fitbit in your phone settings? Also, what location is showing in your Fitbit settings on your phone and is it correct?

Bottom line, the ionic takes the time from your phone, not its own GPS time.

You must go into advanced settings on your phone app and make sure "use network time" is enabled.

Thanks Simon but I (we ) have done this 100 times, it does not work.
Mine is frozen on Chicago time. Nothing can change it. I turn off the
automatic function and manually set it and after a minute it defaults back.
My iPhone has the correct time my piece of crap ionic is always wrong .

I didn't have the location settings set in the app, but I did have location
services enabled on my iPhone. I did have to force close the app and
restart the watch for the sync to happen. I'm no longer traveling, so I
can't tell if it'll automatically switch time zones, but that would be a
nice touch if, when the Ionic syncs with the app, the time automatically
updates if it's different. Or if the Ionic comes with an option to manually
change the time if you're too far away from the phone. Thanks!

So my phone needs to have a WiFi internet connection to enable the time zone change on my Ionic?  If my phone has a data connection, not wifi, should that not work as well?

Seems crazy to have to change fitbit wifi setting to reset the time.

My new ionic inability to change time with time zone change, just had me miss my flight. If a smart watch is not smart enough to adjust to time zones then is it really that smart. Is this something the manufacturer would be working on.

Hey Everyone!

Your Fitbit Ionic will automatically update the timezone but you need to have this option enable in your app. Every time you're travelling, it will need to have internet connection and Bluetooth on, in order to show the correct timezone. (Wifi or data connection from your phone will work)

This means that every time you make a change in your app, you need to sync your Fitbit in order for it to accept it. You can learn more about it by checking How do I change the time on my tracker?

Hope this clarifies any doubt!

Thanks, but I have tried this a number of times and it does not update the
Clock time on the watch. I have an Internet connection to the app on my
phone and connected from the app directly, and have bluetooth enabled (and
confirmed it is paired). I've tried manually setting the TIme zone, then
re-synching, and using the Automatic detection. In addition to
re-synching, I have re-booted the ionic. This is very frustrating. Is
there an update to the watch software that I need?

I was able to manually set the timezone when I traveled back home yesterday. I checked and it appears I do have auto time zone set up on my fitbit app on the phone.  I will be traveling again tomorrow across time zones and I hope that the Ionic will be able to set the time! I'll check back in with you if I have problems.

I’m happy to report that my Fitbit changed to the correct time zone just moments after I landed and took my phone off airplane mode!

I am about to cross time zones again today so I’ll be able to test it a second time!

That option does NOT exist on the iOS version of the FitBit app. There is no such thing as "Advanced Setting" in the iOS app anywhere.

fitI am having the same issue. On iOS Fitbit app there is no place to have the app auto select the time zone.

The only way I know is to login to your fitbit.com account and do it manually under "Settings" which is bloody brain-dead ridiculous!

Really Fitbit????
