Has anyone tried comparing their Ionic GPS track to others? I regularly run the same route which my Ionic has recorded as anything between 10.3 and 11.4 km. I have friend on Strava who run the exact same route but with a suunto or harming watch and it comes up more like 8.5 km. I have mapped it with OS mapping online route planner tool and it is about 8.5 km. Anyone else?

Hi @jennie76, welcome to the Community Forums!
Thanks for bringing this to our attention and for the details that were shared in your post. To better assist you with this GPS concern, can you please let me know when was the first time you experienced this situation and how many times since then? Is this occurring with a specific exercise or with all of them? If you haven't already done so, please restart your Ionic and check: How accurate is my GPS data captured by my Fitbit device? for more information about GPS tracking.
Looking forward to your reply.

When it is able to continuously remain connected to GPS, my Ionic's GPS can run anywhere from accurate to 10% low, when I compare route distance using Google Maps or tracking with Strava using my iPhone. Besides the inconsistent accuracy, I generally don't use my current Ionic to track runs or rides because it tends to periodically disconnect and reconnect from/to GPS every few runs/rides, leading to huge errors in distance. I was initially spoiled by my first Ionic (which unfortunately suffered sudden Ionic death syndrome after only six weeks) - used its GPS feature for every ride and run and it seemed to be spot-on, in its short lifetime. In fact, since Fitbit arbitrarily and recently decided to replace Active Minutes with the insane Zone Minutes (where one minute in real life can count as two minutes in Fitbit's fantasy fitness world), I wear my Ionic on my ankle when cycling to at least count steps, since heart rate is basically meaningless now with Zone Minutes and my medical insurance gives me a discount for achieving certain step goals (and Active Minute goals which are no longer collected). My Ionic is an expensive step counter but here I am!

Hey. So I only noticed the issue of overestimating recently as I saw numerous other examples of the same run ..... but I guess it has always been doing it, so for over a year, numerous updates .... and actually 2 watches as my first suffered sudden death. There are of course occasional runs where something goes wrong and gps drops out causing some odd paths but I’m just discounting those. It is the consistent over estimate which I am curious about As it is not helpful if training towards a specific goal such as a marathon, wondering if it is more to do with how Fitbit calculates distance and if it might be adding in height data.
