Google Pixel 2 & XL Compatibility

Why, why on God's green earth is this fitbit ionic not compatible with one of the top flagship phones for this year. I've seen some half **ahem** answers to this question but none that actually fully explain why fitbit has dropped the ball on the compatibility. There has to be plenty of other people out there that agree how stupid this is on fitbits part that still hasn't found a solution to this after 2 months of this phones release.

It's fully compatible. I have the both and everything works 100% fine. What "incompatibility" are you referring to?

Most android devices will work, even if not on the list.  You just heard from someone first hand that it is compatible, so I would trust that 100%.

My HTC A9 was not on the compatibility list for many months while Fitbit tested it.... But it still worked fine for me.

Fitbit support also confirmed it was not a compatible phone. And multiple fitbit community pages also have people saying the pixel 2 is not compatible.

...and I’m still trying to determine what specifically you consider to be incompatible in this case? Fitbit Ionic connects via Bluetooth to the device, which runs the Fitbit Android app. Very little that can go wrong here. They may not have tested the specific device yet, so they technically can’t guarantee that it’s compatible.

...you are the only person I have found on here that says there is no issue with the device connecting to the pixel 2. Have you used all the features that the device offers without issues?

Best Answer

Yup, extensively - apps, watch faces, challenges, workouts etc. Had some sync issues early on, but everything works perfect now.

I have the Pixel XL2 and have to reboot the phone to get it to sync each time. I was hoping this last Ionic update would fix it but no luck so far.

That was my issue with the HTC A9 for a few months, but fortunately it eventually worked itself out.

Count your lucky stars, because everyone else I have communicated with is having issues.  Mine notifications aren't working and Fitbit says it's not a supported phone so there's nothing to "fix".

It would be good to know exactly what this "incompatibility" is, since I find it hard to believe that I would be an "exception" to everyone else having issues. One thing I did after initially having syncing issues is to delete the "Ionic" profile from my Bluetooth connection list. The device sync issues went away completely after that.

Just my $0.02 worth....

Sounds like you're the"exception" Rob.

I have a Pixel 2 and everything seems fine connection wise with my Ionic. I never even looked at the compatiility list. So me and Rob must be the exceptionS.

Under Fitbit notifications hit the ... button and hit help. Go thru the list and make sure you tried all the things it listed. Mine was as stupid. My "do not disturb" feature was on, which I was not aware of. When you turn your phone on silent,it activates do not disturb, which blocks notifications from being sent to the watch. After hours of troubleshooting, mine finally works on my Google Pixel 2! How dumb of me!

How do you get your Fitbit Ionic to sync on reboot?  I was somehow able to get my Fitbit Ionic to sync to my Pixel 2 XL on Tuesday.  However, the phone hasn't been willing to sync again since then (it is now Thursday).  I have restarted the phone, turned Bluetooth on and off and everything else that I can think of or have read about in these forums.

I finally got my Fitbit to sync again.  I to reset my Bluetooth settings by going to Settings -> Network & Internet -> Three dots -> Network settings reset.  This will be a real pain if I have to delete all of my Bluetooth devices and Network settings every time I need to sync my watch.

Mostly just commenting so I can be alerted to replies. I have the Pixel 2 XL and the Fitbit Blaze (not Ionic but similar functionality). Through direct bluetooth pairing I have managed to get Call notifications but nothing else. No text, email, etc. The basic Fitbit syncing of steps and other data works fine but it's the notifications I still don't have. I have tried all the "tricks" found on this and other forums of resetting the bluetooth on phone and watch. Hopefully this is resolved quickly by Fitbit!

Me too. I can't get notifications at all, and never have been able to. Syncing works fine, I can get all my info, just no text or phone call notifications. I'm using a Pixel 2 with an Ionic.

My problem was my phone was on silent. Once I turned it on vibrate or sound, it worked.
