HR and Hours Slept Accuracy

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've had the Ionic for three days. I've run on two different tread mills and the HR was way off. I tried different positions on the wrist. My chest sensor was 130, the Ionic 198 ! My Surge and chest were always close. Regarding sleep, the Ionic recorded 5 hours but I slept 71/2. The Surge was always accurate. I would have bought another Surge if it were not for the band falling apart. I just hope the ionic gets better with some updates, the Surge did.

@mrborenstein Welcome to the Fitbit Community! Are you still experiencing issues with the HR readings?

I just want to make sure you were using the correct wrist placement recommend by Fitbit. Take a look at this post to check it out. Basically, it needs to be 2 to 3 fingers up from your wrist bone.  Also, your watch doesn't need to be too tight on your arm as it will interfere with your blood flow.

Regarding sleep, are you still experiencing those problems? If you are, please give me the exact dates in which this has happened to you.

Note that you can also edit your sleep logs anytime by doing the following:

  • Open the Fitbit app.
  • Tap the Sleep tile.
  • Tap the sleep log that is wrong.
  • Tap the edit icon on top right corner.
  • Save.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted! Smiley Happy

I wear the watch as indicated. The HR is still quite high relative to my
chest strap. The sleep is better but very sensitive even in the normal
position.

This issue was brought up several times and every time conflicting information was bounced around the forum. There is no official acknowledgement from support about perceived increase in HR monitoring vis-a-vis Blaze / Surge etc. I and a few other members even posted a few comparisons to highlight the potential inaccuracy in IONIC but to no avail.

Since HR is so near and dear to everything else in fitness, I had to return IONIC.

I also get the dubious distinction of receiving a notification from a moderator stating I am posting consistently negative comments.

In my nearly 30 or so days of experience I find IONIC's heart rate monitoring sub-par compared to Blaze and Surge and there are many that feel the same way. However as soon as this thread is posted another one from  a "presumably passionate IONIC-holic" will originate stating the exact opposite. My use case involves weight training and high intensity activities. I also compared Blaze and IONIC at rest.
