Heart rate graph gaps

  1. I was looking to see if anyone has this problem and how it was fixed. The second picture from March 29 was with a different Fitbit and it read the rate throughout the day. With this new one, there are several gaps in the graph. Is there a solution or is it defective. I know how to wear it as the second picture indicates but all of a sudden there is an issue. Can anyone help?image.pngimage.png

@Tracylo Welcome to the Fitbit Community! I recommend to perform a restart on your tracker first. Also, make sure you are not wearing it too tight as that may interfere with the signal. Use the tracker a little bit far up your wrist (like one or two fingers from your wrist bone on a regular day); blood flow is stronger there and you will get a better and more accurate reading. If you are doing exercise; it is recommended to use it 2 to 3 fingers from your wrist bone for improved heart rate accuracy.

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

Hi SantilFitbit,

Restart hs been done and outcome was exactly as you described with v122 appearin on the screen, followed a little later by the message "Im READY".

Now to lift my heart rate up again.   I'll advise the outcome.

Many thanks.  Enjoy your day.

The suggested fitbit placing on the wrist does not work in actual use as the fitbit goes down up to the wrist bone due to gravity unless perhaps it is put on very tight. I have tried the suggested fitbit positioning when cycling or brisk walking and it does not stay on place as recommended.

This may appear to be counter intuitive. Leave your fit bit loose. Let
it move up and down your wrist. Mine works well when cycling, jogging or
brisk walking.

@Bignay Welcome to the Fitbit family! It shouldn't be a problem if your Fitbit moves up and down between your arm and wrist bone. It should be fine as blood flow on that part of your arm is stronger so you should get the readings even if its loose. Are you getting the readings?

@LindsayS Thanks for sharing your experience!

Hello Santi

if worn too loosely it eventually will travel to the underside of the wrist. Can it read here too?

It should work ok. Mine does

@adam7272 Welcome to the Fitbit family! Yes, it should work properly there as well. Just make sure it is not too loose and not too tight. Try to find the point that's two to three fingers from your wrist bone. But yes, it should work properly just like @LindsayS said.

Try it out and let me know how it goes! Smiley Happy

I have a similar problem with my ionic in the water. My Fitbit will pause while doing water aerobics. I have not intentionally paused it. Any suggestions?

Hi Don Hughes (20)

I suspect that your Fitbit does not pause when doing water aerobatics,
rather it is not able to receive a signal to read your pulse rate whilst
being in the water. So it appears to have paused. It would start to work
again when it is dry and your wrist is in air.

When your heart beats, your capillaries expand and contract based on blood
volume changes. PurePulse LED lights on your device reflect onto the skin
to detect blood volume changes and finely tuned algorithms are applied to
measure heart rate automatically and continuously.

The density of water will cause interference with the signal enabling it to
be unreadable.

Enjoy your day

Thanks for the reply. Would a possible solution be to wear the band a bit
tighter?

Hi Don,

Wearing your Fitbit tighter will not help. The Fitbit is not designed to
work with an interface of water between your wrist and the Fitbit.

IE: It will not work underwater or if your wrist or the unit is wet.

I’ve done every fix you suggest.  I had owned 3 Charge 2’s and all have performed exactly the same way — not good or worthy of a HR monitor to track during a workout for people who sweat.

My third Charge 2 currently loses half the band when I remove it (???).  Why on earth do they think you might want to change colors of the band?  I guess it is a way to bleed more dollars out of us. The band doesn’t stay together —- now I need to purchase another band to replace one that was designed to be replaceable (for esthetics) . . . I must replace it because their bright “design” idea busted!

Hi Zapman66(Runner),

Many thanks for your advice.

Unfortunately Charge Bands are not as good as maybe they should be.

No kidding! I never wanted to change a band anyhow . . . . then mine now
falls apart in two pieces every time I remove it! The little snappy-do
that Fitbit has invented to hold the band to the device has something
haywire because it will never hook back up permanently. I have never tried
to take the band off --- a couple weeks ago it just fell apart and won't
stay hooked back permanently. Another Better* "Idea by Fitbit!" * Good to
see their engineering department hasn't changed.

Why?  What's the matter with their engineering?  I have had numerous Fitbit's of different styles.  Each and every one of them has had a major flaw.

I try all the pulse corrective actions, results improved slightly but not satisfactory.  I expected more from this device. All the statistics created are suspect. I’m sure all the calculations are within tolerance but we are left with a GIGO condition: Garbage In – Garbage Out

Thanks Jim360! I totally agree and am ready to purchase a more dependable
tracker. Got any suggestions?
