HR problems and wild readings

Is anyone else getting wild HR readings?

I'm putting it snug 2 fingers away from my wrist bone like I did with the blaze and within 30 seconds of starting a jog it is reading a 190bpm and not falling below 170bpm even when slowing down... The blaze never put me so high and in peak for so long.... I do 30-45 minute jogs and the Ionic has me in peak for most if not all of my jog, surely I'd be on the floor if this was the case? I get a little out of breath but feel fine.

Ir's getting a little infuriating in all honesty.

@MoominWill, have you checked your pulse the old fashioned way just to make sure?  By most accounts I've read, the Ionic is, if anything, more accurate than previous Fitbit trackers.

I haven't done that no, I will give it a go next time, I was more worried by how quickly it shot from 130 to 180 in a second to think of doing that...

Just count your pulse for 15 seconds and multiply by 4 to confirm.

When I go out for a run my pulse routinely spikes shortly after I start; here's a good example:

That's a good point. Mine just didn't go back down, so I stopped jogging just in case. But it's been like this for every jog since getting it. I'll check my pulse next time and see if it is matching.

@MoominWill, can you post a screen grabs of your run which include both heart rate and pace; looking them over would be very instructive.

The first one was the first jog with the Ionic. Pace was 6.8mph, I'm not very quick.

The second is from this morning with the same pace, it just shot up and didn't come down so I decided to stop just in case.

I've had a bit of time at work to calm down and maybe I'm just having a few off days. But while it's telling me it's this high I'm not struggling to breathe and can talk easily... I may be worrying over nothing, I do that a lot.

@MoominWill, how snug do you wear your tracker?  I ask because if I run with mine at the same tightness I wear it for the rest of the day my heart rate will show significantly higher than normal.  When I run I typically notch the band of my tracker down one, if not two before setting off.

I have pretty skinny wrists so usually have it so it doesn't move but not tight enough to constrict so about 5-6 notches in on a small.  That was my biggest gripe with the Blaze it would never stay still while exercising. I will give loosening it up a go and see if that makes a difference it might well be too tight and I just don't notice because I'm used to it.

I have exactly the same: when I start running, it immediately goes up to 170, but the treadmill hr reading tell me I am 130, which is normal because I run at 5mph (I am slow and it´s the end of the workout). If then I move the ionic down to my wirst bone, goes back down to 135 or so, but it´s way closer to the real thing.

If I move it back up, again at 170, if I then move it back down, back to 135. The treadmill reads 135 the whole time. I have also checked myself counting for 6 seconds and multiplying by 10 (so the errors is 10 above and below, but it is also a more instantaneous reading).

Neither my garmin nor my previous fitbits had that.
