How do i know if Ionic is updating?

Ok so purchased the Ionic today, I've charged it and started to set it up. 

Phone app is currently saying 'updating your fitbit ionic'. The fitbit logo is flashing. The grey line under the fitbit app remains as a grey line. 

On the Ionic the fitbit logo is shimmering too and there's a blue line from top to bottom of the screen on the left hand side. 

This has been like this for an hour so far with no change - so how do you know if it is actually updating? There's no indication that it's completed 1%, 5%, 10%, 50% etc? 

Am i sat here for the benefit of my own health?

Do a restart 3 times

Then start the update again. There should be a line at the bottom showing you the progress and also the App should be telling you the progress as well
