How does the Ionic track lengths while swimming?

I really like the ability to track swim lengths with the FitBit Ionic but have noticed a few oddities and would like to understand how the tracking works, so I can do my best to get it tracked consistently. Either way, this functionality is great and one of the main reasons that I bought the ionic, but it drives me bonkers when the tracking just doesn't add up.

1. It usually misses a length or two especially when swimming IM and changing from back to breast on the wall. Does the FitBit have to turn in a specific way in order to track the turn?

2. Somehow, I lose 1 yard throughout my swim. Example I swim in a 25 yard pool and have the settings set to 25 yards. I often finish with a distance of 1974 yards.... It wouldn't be so weird if it just missed one length but it's missing one yard out of the length.

It would be really nice to either add distance or lengths when they aren't correctly tracked or if you are doing a kick set. I understand why tracking doesn't work with kick, but it would be great to be able to leave the timer running and add the kick to the practice manually.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Kelly
