How many notifications can Ionic hold?

I use to have the Fitbit Blaze and it could hold several emails and messages without being deleted?  I've had the Iconic for a couple days and noticed that its not keeping my emails and messages.  It seems it can only keep 1 or 2 messages at a time.  Is this correct?  Can the Iconic keep/hold more messages other than a couple?

I’ve had a lot more than one or two. I rarely clear them and just check and had 7 notifications. 1 missed call the rest texts. I don’t have email notifications set up.
