I have got the Huawei p20 pro and I have the ionic. I am having issues with the watch syncing and also received receiving messages.
When I open Fitbit setting the following error message inside of the Fitbit for Android app:"Notification service not running. A phone restart is required to re-enable notifications on your tracker." Even if I perform a restart, the error message persists.
I try to fix the problem.
1. https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Android-App/Android-9-0-Pie-not-able-to-sync/td-p/2889550 - doesn't help
2. Restart watch, phone (Bluetooth+GPS ON/OFF), Bluetooth paired/unpaired etc - nothing helps.
There are several steps:
1. I open the APP, sync manually - I receive notifications during 15 min
2. I close the APP, reopen again, go to the notification - error again. I need to sync manually again.
3. I sync, don't close the APP, in a 15-20 min the APP go to shadow( according to android settings) and no notifications again.
Fitbit version - 2.89
Android version - 9.0.0.203 (EMUI version)

Have you gone into your devices battery saving settings and whitelisted the Fitbit app? Huawei phones tend to have some pretty strict battery saving rules.
I haven't got an EMUI 9.0 device but on my device running EMUI 8.0 I would do the following. Open the Settings app on the phone - Battery - Launch - scroll down to the Fitbit app - make sure the manage automatically toggle is off, it should then come up with a window and you should make sure all of the toggles there are set to on.

Hi @Allan26
I've tested this solution last 10 days and it works correctly.
Huawei has battery restrictions. It tries to save battery and doesn't run in background
So, what you should do:
1. Setting - Battery - App launch
2.Find Fitbit App
3. Make it as <manage manually> (toggle should be grey)
4. In opened pop up (auto launch, Secondary launch, run in background) - all toggles should be ON (blue color)
Every time you will receive system message that fitbit app uses a lot battery - just ignore it!
If you need screenshots or other instructions write me your email address or phone and I will send/help you!
Be happy with Huawei P20 Pro and Ionic

Hi N8tegee, I have never been able to get my ionic and my Huawei p20 pro to be fully compatible at all. I can get some notifications like emails and Twitter to come through, but I have never been able to get the text messages to work and come up on my phone and nor can I get the phone to ring as a notification if someone is ringing me.
Why is this the case when I have the most up to date system 9 on my phone and the most up to date 2.94 system of Fitbit also??
I find this all very frustrating when they now tell you that Huawei p20 pro is fully compatible with the Fitbit ionic device.
Any help you can give me would be eternally grateful. Frank
