I have done all the steps from here and the videos plus was walked through all the steps via customer support when I called for assistance. My phone is older than the iconic but yet the iconic is not compatible with my V20.
Need a system update for this intentional design flaw.

I doubt “intentional design flaw” is an accurate representation of your issue. You may have encountered problems during the setup but although the LG V20 is not shown as a “supported device”, given its specs, you may find it is possible to get it working with the Ionic. It runs Android, so you can download the Fitbit app, it supports BT LE and also has wifi.
The initial setup can be troublesome for some, even those with “supported devices”, though fortunately not I, but persistence usually pays off. I suggest running through the setup process again, ensuring you have the most up to date software and os, and reset the Ionic.
Let us know how you get on.

I grabbed a family member V20 (I have a V30) and ran through the setup. It works perfect. Zero issues.. Changed a few clock faces to test it. All appeared to work.. Not sure why yours is not. You will hate this solution but try a factory reset on the phone. Then before you install any other third party apps try fitbit. My wife's phone has only a couple card games on it as she normally uses her work phone.
