Update 9/3/2020: This update should now be available to all customers. If you have any difficulty updating, make sure you are following the directions in this article, and then provide as many specific details as possible in your post so that we can assist.
We've started rolling out Fitbit OS 4.2 Firmware Update (71.6.19) for Ionic.
We release firmware updates to all customers in phases. The update will be available to everyone soon, and a banner will appear in the app when you can install the update. If you don’t see the banner yet, check the app again later.
*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

Release notes can be found here.
HOW DO I UPDATE?
Step by step instructions for updating your Ionic device can be found here.
We recommend updating your Ionic over a home Wi-Fi network as this can greatly reduce the time it can take to get set up. For more information on connecting your Ionic to Wi-Fi, check out this article.
If you run into any trouble updating your Ionic I recommend reviewing these troubleshooting tips.

I updated my Ionic firmware to OS 4.2. After two weeks of use I was synching it when all of a sudden the screen went black and the battery was still half full. Is something wrong with defective with the update? How do I restart my watch again?

My Ionic looks like it's gone backwards, have reset multiple times, says firmware is a 27.70.8.0! No heart rate, no steps, battery seems to be stuck on, is draining in 2-3 hours. It's about 18 months old, I'm about to give up and go to a competitor! Runs update, says it's done and it is still at 27.70.8.0 and still not working!

@SunsetRunner, "Runs update, says it's done and it is still at 27.70.8.0 and still not working!"
Is it prompting you to install the latest (71.6.19) update?
The latest update is progressively being rolled out. It's not available for all. I'm still waiting for the notification. Although 70.8.0 works for me - so I need to be careful what I wish for.

My Ionic have stopped recording my steps after the update, and the device keep saying there is update available even though I have re updated several times. I have removed the device and added back as a new install hoping this will resolve the issue but still not recording steps.

Good afternoon. Prior to the update I was a having issues with the touch screen not working or working intermittently. This started happening about a week ago. I placed the Ionic on the charger and ran the firmware update. After the update the touch screen work for maybe a minute or two. A few minutes later the Ionic did not turn on. I tried holding the left button, the left and lower right. Nothing. I was able the get it to come back on by holding all 3 buttons until the logo came up. But that only lasted a few minutes. Now it is totally dead. Battery show as fully charged on the app. What is my course of action? The current Ionic that I have is a replacement from about a year ago.

My Ionic device have stopped counting my steps and I keep getting error message to calibrate my device. I have tried to calibrate several times with no success. This all started after the Firmware update. Even though I have updated several times also, i am still getting the message that update is available.. I have talked to customer service they are advising me to get a new device. There should be a fix for this..... I count on someone coming up with a resolution or else I am leaving Fitbit for good after 8 years.

I did everything the email from support told me to do (which was pretty much what I was already doing). Twice. NO CHANGE. This update killed my Ionic!

@Rhwisty I'm sorry to hear that, can you confirm that you tried the troubleshooting steps here?
@SunsetRunner, @Jose1114 This thread is for Firmware Update OS 4.2 (71.6.19). It's a progressive rollout and you will notice a banner once the update is available to you. We would be interested in hearing your feedback in this thread after you receive the update.

The update went fine. I connected the charge cord. And followed the link on the app. The update was successful. The Ionic worked for a short time - minutes- after the update. I explained what I did after it stopped. Now I cannot start the Ionic. I have held down buttons for many seconds and nothing. I have left it charging still nothing. The app says cannot connect to device. It does not turn on.
