Ionic Hardware Failed

😞

Bought my Ionic in late January. Worked fairly well but had the Pay bug (constantly turned on the Pay app and had to be frequently reset). That was ok. I loved the device, which made it worth it. But yesterday the device synced at 5:51 AM. I walked to breakfast. When I checked again at 6:15, Black Screen of Death. Totally unresponsive. Had 78% charge when it died. The reset (left and bottom right) button push does nothing. No lights. No ability to charge.  It's been almost exactly 60 days. I've heard horror stories that people get refurbished, damaged/scratched or iffy devices with warranty replacements. I'm ready to cry. I don't have the $ to replace it and if this is common,  what happens after a year! 😕 I'm confused as to why the device up and died. Any ideas? What in the world did I do wrong?

Sure thing @Lullabug! I also love my Fitbit Ionic, so I totally feel you. I got your back, so keep me in the loop sweetie.

Great @sylvesri! Hopefully your new buddy ships very soon to you. Woman Very Happy

In regards to Celsius and Fahrenheit, there are no further details I can share with you at this time. You can learn more about how Fitbit decides what suggestions get released in our FAQs. Have you voted for the suggestion already? Smiley Very Happy

Got the new device yesterday. Very happy that it seems to be brand-new (came in a sealed package). Interestingly, the screen on this one looks more curved than the last. Sadly it also seems easier to scratch - already has one from the dog bumping it off the table yesterday. Last one seemed impervious. Guess I'll be investing in a screen protector, which is A-OK. I have yet to test it in the pool. In general everything seems OK otherwise. Will keep posting updates.

Same thing happened to me today.  Ionic has had lots of issues, but this one is the worst.  I tried support with a live chat, which was disastrous, and complete waste of time.  Unfortunately, although I've been with fitbit for a few years, it may be time to call it quits and move on to another product.

Interesting that the mods changed my subject line from "Ionic Died" to "display."

This was not a display issue. The entire device died. Wouldn't charge, wouldn't turn on. No lights, no response, water inside the device.

I don't appreciate that kind of modification, folks. The device failed, full stop.

The new device is working fine. I suspect there is some manufacturing error, but can't confirm or deny that.

Agree Lullabug - I just got my 3rd Ionic replacement, because the first two BOTH died the same way, totally out of the blue and whilst near fully charged. Screen blank and unable to turn back on... if I tried to charge them the unit would just become very hot but remain dead (so likely short circuit occurred somewhere). Hopefully 3rd time lucky but it should be pointed out that the 1st replacement lasted only TWO days before it died. I'm starting to think that either there's a serious design flaw in this model or, even worse, design contains planned obsolescence in anticipation of customers opting to upgrade to latest model.

Will also keep you posted if this THIRD unit fails! Just unpacked from box but firmware update via Bluetooth keeps failing so will have to wait until I get home to try over Wi-Fi.
