Ionic Heart Rate Light

When I'm not working out, I will typically go in the settings to turn off the heart rate monitor (HRM) in order to save battery life. When I had my Surge, after I turned off the HRM, the light on the back would also turn off, no questions asked. With the Ionic, the light continues to stay on (while on my wrist) and will only shut off when it senses that it's not near my wrist.

Is there a glitch with mine or has the newest generation watch been designed less sophisticated that the older one? Appreciate any help/advice someone in the know can provide!

Why turn it off?  Its not like an apple watch where you get less than a day battery out of the device.   I recommend leaving it on, getting the heart rate data.  There are several reasons that justify leaving it on.

  • More accurate heart rate caloric burn
  • sleep analysis
  • you already get 5+ day battery out of the device.

I too have the same problem. I swear it didn't do this the 1st week I had it. Thoughts?

I've had three Ionic's and they all do the same thing. As far as I know it's by design, maybe so the device can tell if you've taken it off and ask for a device or fitbit pay pin?

Seeing as it's set up this way, I'm not sure turning it off will save any battery at all.

That could be the case but I'm surprised there hasn't been a response from Fitbit support on why the light stays on even when heart rate is off. I'm thinking that a light constantly flashing, while it's on my wrist, is causing the battery to go down though.
