Ionic Losing GPS Connection, Unable To Reconnect

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've found on a couple of my runs that the GPS connection drops out, and the Ionic is unable to reconnect. As a result my pace data and GPS tracking is way off, which is disappointing. This has happened twice so far, and I have lost up to half of the data from each run.

Is this a known issue, and if so is there a firmware update in work to resolve this? I am frustrated and considering moving to another device.

I have had mixed results; twice now I've lost the GPS signal while hiking (in Fitbit's backyard, no less, on the San Francisco Peninsula in some redwood forests -- which admittedly are not easy for GPS devices). With the old (previous) firmware, it never reconnected; now, with version 27.31.1.29, and a clear sky, it managed to occasionally reconnect.

The most disappointing part of this for me is that I previously had a Fitbit Surge and its GPS was *amazing* in this regard, I almost never lost the GPS signal even in thick forest.

It happened to me twice this week as well. Both in open areas and where I never had connections problems before.

Did anyone hear of an acknowledge issue of the firmware ? (I just did the update). Thanks

My Ionic GPS won't reconnect when losing signal. You have to start the app over again to reconnect the GPS signal.

Have the same issue.  I'm not sure why it's losing signal either.  I'm running outside.  Even if I run near trees, there are no leaves on them yet.  Strange.

I just hope someone from Fitbit sees this so they can fix it in the next
update.

The same has just happened to me for the second time in a week it's so frustrating that it won't reconnect will Fitbit accept there is a problem?

For the second time in a week my GPS on my Ionic has dropped out then would not reconnect it was an open run with no blockages to affect the GPS. Very disappointing that you can spend £230 on this watch to have basic issues like this happening. Are there any way of ensuring this doesn't happen again like resetting the watch?

Ever since I updated, my ionic loses sync with:
Run
Walk
Treadmill
This is completely unacceptable.  This update should have never come out with these issues.  This affects the very reason I have used Fitbit for 2 years.  My loyalty is diminishing with every failed sync.

I too have been severely disappointed with this occurring.

I did not appear to have any issues with it prior to the OS2 firmware update, but have had nothing but problems since.

I have tried being patient and waiting for fitbit to resolve the problems as I loved it prior to the firmware update, but I'm now seriously considering returning my Ionic for a refund as a fitness tracking device which can't track my run is clearly not fit for purpose.

Same here, I have just run a series of tests which have been added to my Support case.

My 6 months young Ionic won't GPS connect since OS2 and firmware  and my Surge and Android always connect immediately and track

Support have just escalated my case to the next level. .

Well... maybe they read these posts and see how many happy customers they
have...

The first post was on Feb 13th. It’s more than 1.5 months gone and no
reaction...

Seen the same with other tech companies that don’t exist anymore..

My GPS dropped out on a bike ride yesterday and I lost a mile (compared with my GPS bike computer). I was in an area with a lot of trees and some tall buildings.

Me too. Same 10k route, ok for the last 6 months. Today lost gps at 6k and wouldn't reconnect.

Won't talk to phone unless turn Bluetooth off/on either. This worked until last app update (Android)
