Ionic, Windows 7, and Fitbit Dongle

Good news, I am able to synch my Ionic on my Windows 7 laptop via the wireless dongle I got with my Surge.  🙂

Do you have Bluetooth on your Windows 7 laptop?  I just went thought this with someone I was helping but on a Windows 7 <desktop> with NO integrated Bluetooth.  This person did not have (or want) a smartphone and only had access to a Windows 7 machine.  Fitbit support messaged me that her new Ionic would sync with the Fitbit usb dongle from her previous device as long as she did the initial setup with a smartphone first.  I did the initial setup for her on my own smartphone and then removed the setup from my smartphone.

Turns out (after spending some time on the phone with a Fitbit support tech) that the Fitbit usb dongle does NOT work with the Ionic.  At least that's what I was told (with an apology) and experienced with support tech.  He told me the Ionic required integrated Bluetooth to sync.  I popped over to a computer store and picked up BlueTooth dongle and after doing the installation "Sync Now" worked.

If you have BlueTooth enabled on your laptop it may appear to work with the Fitbit dongle plugged in but that fitbit dongle by itself did NOT work for me.

What I did:

1. Initial setup with a smartphone

2. Disable bluetooth on smartphone to make sure it not connecting there.

3. Sync Now with integrated OR usb dongle Bluetooth enabled.

No, my laptop doesn't have Bluetooth, and if I happen to forget I moved the dongle to my other laptop (personal vs. company), I get the following message:

Long story short, the Surge dongle works perfectly well for synching the Ionic.

Good to hear.  Not sure why they couldn't get it to work for me.
