Ionic? Would you recommend?

I ordered an Ionic a month ago (still on backorder) after I went through 3 Versas that never worked right.  Now I'm reading all the issues with the Ionic and wondering if I should not get another Fitbit at all.  Thoughts?  What is good and bad about the Ionic?

Hi @Stephanie46032,

Welcome to the forum!

Hopefully a new Ionic may have the latest firmware already installed. If not, it can be a bit hit or mis whether the update process goes smoothly and everything works correctly.

Many of us are waiting for a totally re-engineered firmware version to be released. I suspect the firmware coders at Fitbit central are currently extensively working on and hopefully "soak testing" the next release.

The last release was a public relations nightmare. And that's no exaggeration!

I would not swim with the Ionic. I won't even shower with mine. It is marketed as OK for watersports. Clearly it is NOT.

The WR50 certification isn't enough. I'm not sure if the certification level is not enough or if the build quality is an issue?

The device should have been designed and manufactured to the WR100 standard.

If you MUST swim with the Ionic, only do so during the warranty period. Fitbit are abliged to replace the product if it fails. After the 12 month warranty you are on your own. DO NOT SWIM or immerse in water after the warranty has lapsed!
