Ionic adding steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I am loving my Ionic so far. But on Monday I think it added some extra steps while I was laid down? I couldn’t be sure. Today I went for a run (around 5-6k steps) then after getting back I was laid on my bed and I got my 10k notification??? I have defo not done 10k. I have read other people’s questions on here regarding extra steps while on charge but neither time has it been charging. Can anyone offer any advice. Don’t mine these extra steps but I’m only cheating myself 😂

A warm welcome to the Community @EmmaD2018! Let me help you with your watch's step accuracy. I appreciate the details you've mentioned, it's weird that it gave you the 10k notification when you were laying in bed.

Just as you mentioned, the extra steps that people were reporting was about when the Ionic wasn't being worn. I would like you to take a look at this article about why do I get extra steps sometimes? but since you mentioned it was more than a few steps, please try the following:

Restart your Ionic

- Make sure the setting is set to non-dominant hand

Also, if you would like to delete the data you got before, you can manually log driving. After this, keep monitoring your steps.

My wife is having the same problem with her Ionic.  She came home last night laughing about how many floors it said she had climbed and she was at her desk all day and it registered 10K steps while she was sitting there.  The software is broken for this model which is a shame.  After all the basic function of this is step counting, and numerous people have noted that it is not working on this very expensive model.

Mine is doing the same.  After I get done with an hike,  it will almost double what I did?????

I have the same problem.  I just added a post on Phantom Exercises.  At the completion of a walking exercise my Fitbit app creates a duplicate exercise the same day.  It usually takes a few minutes after  the exercise is Ended and Done and appears on the Fitbit app.  I wonder if the last software update is the origin of the problem since this has never happened during 7 months of use.  Also, it is possible that the problem is not in the watch, but in the Fitbit app, since that's where the problem occurs.

Hi

mine has just done this exact thing. I did a run, a 5k which took me to 10k steps. Next time I looked at my watch it’s on 15k, checked the app and it’s done a duplicate run. So two runs are showing up for the same distance. I have deleted the run off the app but my steps still show at 15k. Now on reflection it is probably this that happened last time too

Do you have the Strava app on Fitbit. If yes go to Fitbit Dashboard settings and revoke Strava; then go to Strava app setting and unlink Fitbit. Strava is what’s causing the double counting of GPS exercise data.

The double counting steps should revert back to the actual steps once you deleted the phantom exercise. It may take awhile.

No, I do not have Strava as an app.

Did you ever have Strava as an app. Weeks after I removed Strava it still had a link to Fitbit. When I disabled the link, the phantom exercise data stopped appearing.

Did a factory reset yesterday, and it is still doing it.

A factory reset may only remove Fitbit’s link to Strava. It would not remove the Fitbit link on Strava. If you have, or ever had, a link to Strava you should remove links on both ends. That solved the problem for me.

I'm having the same issue, and have Strava linked. But this issue only started 3 days ago.... I've had Stava linked since I got the Ionic in January....I will unlink, since I don't use Strava much anyway. Worth a try.
