Purchased this Ionic back in July. Seemed to run well until a couple of months ago. Then it started disconnecting from the Fitbit app, losing track of stats, deleting and adding faces and adding steps. It didn’t just add a couple of steps but sometimes added miles. And in a country thousands of miles away. So, I reset my password and added the two factor authentication as it seemed someone else was accessing my account. Of course, I had been restarting, resetting, and setting up the Ionic multiple times during all this. Sometimes every hour. I think one day I had to add the watch back into the Fitbit app 10 or more times. It just kept getting deleted. I’d also deleted the watch out of the Bluetooth on my iPhone.
Then it started working correctly. And it did this for three or so weeks. No problems. No disconnections and it worked perfectly. I can’t say why.
So, we went on a trip and during the trip, it started acting flaky again. Kept getting deleted from the Fitbit app. But I didn’t have to do anything more than add it back in and it ran until it got deleted. At this time I also had another Fitbit watch as a back up. I noticed that no matter what, it never got deleted from the Fitbit app. Even if it ran out of juice and wasn’t connected for weeks, once I was powered back on, it worked perfectly with the app. This pointed to a problem between the app and the Ionic. So, I decided to completely dump the other Fitbit watch off the app and completely out of my iPhone. I rebooted my iPhone to make sure it was completely out of the Bluetooth after telling it to be forgotten. This was during our trip. From that day on, the Ionic was not deleted out of the Fitbit app and worked perfectly. No extra steps, no face changes, just normal.
This lasted for another 3 weeks until the day before yesterday. Then around 12 midnight, the face changed by itself. I knew before I even looked at the app that the Ionic would be missing and sure enough, it was. I was perplexed. It was starting to act up again. And to add to the weirdness, my Ionic actually downloaded a face I had never seen and deleted some of my other faces. This went on through part of yesterday and I was getting a bit tired of and frustrated from the whole problem. I tried doing all the normal things to remedy the problem but it seemed that whenever the Fitbit app was running, the watch went nuts. Like someone else was trying to setup their own watch using my account. I again changed my password but it didn’t help. Finally, I logged out of the Fitbit app and just let the watch go on its own. The watch acted normally. No changes. Worked for 4 or 5 hours, no problems. I logged back into the Fitbit app to see what would happen but the watch acted fine. And it has been working well for the last day without any problems.
This leads me to wonder if the problem lies within the Fitbit app and the database it uses, which comes from Fitbit over the internet. My guess is they have a problem with their accounts and their database. And whenever my Fitbit app would get accessed by that database, it would delete the Ionic off the app and the ionic would then not understand how it was set up.
I have not and will probably not get any feedback from Fitbit about this, but I’d like to know if anyone else has had similar experiences.
Unless they are instructed, watches shouldn’t be able to:
1. Change time (mine always seems to lose 4 hours or add 20 hours)
I can see if they are reset, they could have a time change but this is not what I experienced.
2. Add steps and activities that are thousands of miles away. I’ve had runs up to 4 miles added to my account showing the GPS from 5000 miles away.
3. Delete themselves from the Fitbit app. Deletion of a watch is left up to the app. A watch can’t delete itself from the app. Even if the watch is off, the app should just say it is disconnected and can’t find it. The app should not delete the watch from its database.
4. Add new clock faces the user never selected. I’ve had 3 different clock faces added to my watch. And when I looked in the Ionic settings, it basically had 6 watch faces available as an extra one was added. It should only have the ability to have 5 faces at any given time. The last face added was one I had never seen before. It was interesting but not one I had downloaded.
Lastly, the Ionic seemed to have stopped having problems after the app was logged out of. I don’t understand why I have to be logged into Fitbit (through the app) in order to use the app with the watch.

Hi, Odd indeed.
Probably best to contact Fitbit Support directly. They may be able to help you.

Thanks for responding. I actually called and spoke with support before I went on the trip. After telling them about the odd activities occurring on my account, they told me to send them my Ionic and they would send me a new one. Of course, it would probably take a month to receive a new Ionic and this didn’t explain the problem as my Ionic wasn’t running 4 miles without me in another country 5000 miles away. We actually found there is a military base very close to the running area and figured a person must have been running there regularly as I had two or three runs show up from there. Somehow my account was/is connected to another person. I decided to not send the Ionic back and try to solve it. As of now, another 1 1/2 weeks have gone by without any problems. When it starts acting up, I’ll probably again change my password, log out of my account for a while and see if that solves the problem. My guess is someone somewhere is having the same problems as I am as my walks are showing up on their account.
