Since getting the ionic, I have had to return it 5 times, from just going black to the watch just opening, yes the watch top just separates from the body. Has anyone had this problem? I swim every day as well as exercise on a daily basis.

Hey there @Jmgirl, thanks for stopping by! Sorry to hear about the inconveniences you've had with your Fitbit Ionic. I didn't have this problem when I got my Ionic, I was a little difficult for me to remove the large straps and put the small ones, but that was all.
If you look at the bottom of the band make sure there tab pops back out. It takes, at least on mine, a little force and wiggling to get it to pop. Once it does that it is attached. If not it will come right off (had this happen). The connection is a little too tight for it to cleanly small on its own from what I've seen and tried.
You can also take a look at our video tutorial on attaching and removing bands.
Also, I'd try the other size band in your package (on the side you are having difficulty with) to narrow down whether its the latch on the band not holding or the Ionic body and contact customer service with where the issue is so they can get you taken care of this. I'm leaving an image below, maybe it can be of help too.
I'll be around if you need further assistance!

If only my problems with the ionic was just the band, it has been one problem after another and on top of that poor customer service
