Ionic counting too many steps

I've been wearing my ionic for almost 3 years but recently it has started counting way too many steps when I am doing normal activities. It's accurate when I walk/workout but, for example, today I have been office based (at a laptop and talking) and walked a little in the building as part of my job - and yet it says I have done over 10000 steps. I reckon it's more like 3000 max. I wear it on my dominant hand (always have done - I like the watch I wear on the left wrist). It seems like a waste of time using it any more which is so disappointing. Help!

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @SusanO67.

Thank you for sharing the details of the issue you’re experiencing. I understand how you are feeling about this situation. I recommend confirming if your height is correct in the Fitbit app: How do I manage my Fitbit profile? Please also restart your watch: How do I restart my Fitbit device?

For more information about the accuracy of the Fitbit devices, please see How accurate are Fitbit devices?

Hope this helps!

Yes, my height is correct and has been since I bought the device almost 3 years ago. I have resorted to wearing it high up on my non-dominant arm above my lovely watch (not 2-3cm above the wrist as recommended) and setting it to 'dominant hand'. I had already restarted it. It's probably now undercounting and it is hard to check it. I won't want to wear it like this when the weather warms up. Very disappointed in this - would put me off buying another of your products in the future. Do you have any better suggestions, or even just admit that it's a bit rubbish 🙂 ?
