Ionic is Under Counting my Steps

Hi , I went for a walk last night to test my fitbit. I had my husband watch to compare the steps. I had over 1000 extra steps in my fitbit compare to him!

What do you recommend?

@Sofyrose22 Welcome to the Fitbit forums! Thanks for taking the time to post the situation you experienced with step count while walking with your husband.

This is normal as every person has a different stride length. Depending on height of the person the stride will vary so some people may take more or less steps in the same distance compared to others.

For best step accuracy, I'd recommend measuring and adjusting your stride length. You could also check the dominant hand settings:

  • he dominant wrist setting decreases the sensitivity of step counting and should reduce any over counting of steps when your body is not moving.
  • The non-dominant wrist setting increases the sensitivity of step counting and should reduce any under counting of steps. Non-dominant is the default.

To change your settings, in the Fitbit app go to Account tab and choose your device at the top of the screen.

If after doing this you feel it is still not tracking your steps correctly; please try performing a restart on your watch.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted! Smiley Happy
