Ionic is not tracking sleep accurately

Ok so the last 2 nights my Fitbit has tracked my sleep but not accurately.

Saturday to Sunday I went to bed at about 1 and woke up about 330 when my boyfriend went to bed we chatted a bit but it only started logging my sleep from 345 and on.. not the 2 hours before. And now Sunday to Monday it says I was asleep until 841 but I was up and off to work by that time. (From 745 to 841 it says i was "awake" but why isnt it recognizing i wasn't still trying to be asleep?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @Shm0! Thanks for the details that you've mentioned. I'd like you to double check the following requirements in order to make sure you're getting the sleep stages:

- You have the latest version on your Ionic which is 27.32.4.19
- You're using the latest app version as well which is 2.50 for iOS and 2.71 for Android
- If you go to the app and tap on the sleep graph that you received, what message are you seeing?

There are some reasons as to why sleep stages are not showing on your sleep log:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed).
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

I also recommend checking this helpful article about Sleep Stages

Fitbit estimates your sleep stages using a combination of your movement and heart-rate patterns. While you’re sleeping, your device tracks the beat-to-beat changes in your heart rate, known as heart rate variability (HRV), which fluctuate as you transition between light sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep stages. If we don’t have enough information on the back-end to calculate this, we’ll show you your old sleep pattern which doesn’t require heart rate. You may want to check the fit of your tracker to make sure we get a good heart rate signal. To learn more about how to check the fit of your tracker, visit our help site

Having issues with Fitbit Ionic not tracking sleep properly on a regular basis.  For instance I was on the phone talking to some one over FaceTime at 10-50pm the other night and the following day it had recorded me me having been asleep at 10-31pm.

More frequently my Fitbit is recording me going to sleep far later than i have such the following evening to that detailed above it recorded me falling asleep at 2am when I’d fallen asleep sometime around midnight.

And my previous Fitbit showed a trip to the loo in the night as awake, this one logs it as two separate sleep instances with up to an hour missing in the middle when I know I fall back to sleep almost instantly.

All software is up to date and I’ve reset my Fitbit 4 times and make sure the watch is positioned well on my wrist.

Please advice

This may help for those having this problem for one or two nights.  Mine stopped detailed sleep stage tracking over a week ago and has not worked correctly since.  This sounds more like a hardware problem to me.
