I have the Ionic Tracker. Over the last two days, when checking my Fitbit app, I find that my app/watch has posted way more steps than I have actually taken. For instance, on Wednesday I woke up to have 35K steps, and today 25K. I would like to say that I did that, but unfortunately my steps for this week do not come close to totaling that many steps. I have checked my settings, Bluetooth to ensure I’m not picking up someone’s tracker. So now I am out of options. Anyone have suggestions/a fix for this? Many thanks!

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @janetttubbs, hope you're doing great! Thanks for already troubleshooting this, nice way to go!
Did it track those steps while it was on your wrist? What were you doing those days?
If it was on a surface with something that was buzzing or vibrating, like a fan for example; that may have tracked those steps. Remember that the wrist trackers count steps depending on the movement of your arms, when you are driving or for example when your tracker is close to a fan, your tracker counts steps due to the vibrations. You can learn more about how your Fitbit tracks steps by checking out this post.

I have had a similar issue. I plugged my ionic into my computer this morning to charge it from 30% to 100%. In that short amount of time, It went up almost 4000 steps. It was not sitting on my computer, and there were no vibrations. I'm tempted to switch back to Garmin if this, along with the GPS issues I've been having, don't get fixed.

My Ionic that I had less than two months did the same thing, while I was just sitting. I got rapid fire notifications that I was getting closer to the end of my challenge and suddenly within minutes my Ionic registered over 3000 steps! While I was wearing it, not near vibrations or an open window or in the wind or any other situation that Fitbit says causes this issue. I question how they sell a watch that you can't wear in the wind or if anything is vibrating (how can you ride a bike or in a vehicle?). Anyway, when I called I was told that the only fix is replacement and they would send a new module out at no cost to me and all they required was proof of purchase. When I sent that they said my warranty is invalid because even though it's a new watch, I didn't buy it directly from them or the limited number of sellers on their list. They offered me a 25% discount to buy on their website and don't understand why I don't jump at the chance to buy another defective Ionic. It's a known problem and should be resolvable by a software or firmware update, but instead they are using this defect to try to get customers to buy another defective item. They even generously (to their thinking) offered to honor the full year warranty if I gave them another $230 plus s&h. From what I see, this is how Fitbit handles their customer complaints, instead of addressing the actual problem. Then they accused me of stating that I wasn't wearing my watch when this happened and that I set it somewhere where there was vibrations. They are intent on blaming their customers for a defect with their product. Any step tracker that can't tell the difference between steps and wind or vibrations while being worn shouldn't be sold to the public, especially for $300. This product belongs in a dollar store. That's about what it is worth.
