I’ve been watching some videos bcs I’m thinking of getting an Ionic. In the videos menu navigation seems slow and laggy. Has this been fixed in updates?

Hi @SunsetRunner.

The overall speed of the device has definitely improved over time via firmware updates.

Personally I hate lag, but have no issues with my Ionic's performance.

@SunsetRunner not really. Unlike @N8teGee, I don't see any difference in the performance. Not so long time ago somebody asked here about the FPS of Ionic so I did measure it. The screen refreshes 60fps but the menus seem to animate 24fps. Some apps go way below that. Looks like the hardware is just too slow.  The refresh rate may be also capped in order to make battery life longer. For sure, don't expect quality of Samsung or Apple watches which contain more powerful GPUs on board ( supporting GLES3+ ).

I'm happy with the performance of mine, may experience the odd lag issue very occasionally. I've concluded its down to having multiple BT devices connected to my Note 9 causing the very occasional lag and nothing else.

Laggy navigation has nothing to do with BT. The device is just slow. Try to use Samsung Gear and see the difference when everything animates 60fps. Smoother framerate usually will give better UI response as it leaves less time for seeing the UI reaction. With 60fps it's going to be 16ms, with 24fps - 41ms, and this may feel very unresponsive. I don't mind that overall performance of Ionic is rather low but lets be honest - it is not the best hardware for the user experience when it comes to the UI responsiveness and visuals. There are CPU/GPUs in the market that can do a lot more in wearables and for somebody who used such devices before it may look like a quality downgrade when reaching for Ionic.

@SunsetRunner Perhaps you could go to a store and demo one of the display units and see how you find it yourself. I think everyone's perception varies. Whilst most of us are more than happy with the performance of the Ionic, obviously there will be those that aren't. Performance vs battery, I personally think the Ionic is excellent.
