Ionic locking up since update

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I got the update two days ago and now my Ionic is having multiple intermittent issues, including failing to log steps, heart rate not tracking, battery draining VERY quickly and insistence that I enter my pin every time I check my watch (instead of when it’s been removed from my wrist). What little does log in my Ionic doesn’t fully sync to the app. My Ionic was working this morning but froze around 10am. I have restarted it three times but it still refuses to log steps or read heart rate.

@SeeKristinaGo It's nice to see you on the Community. Thanks for the troubleshooting tried and the details mentioned.

I would like you to follow the procedure mentioned in this article regarding your Ionic not tracking heart rate: Why don't I see my heart rate on my Fitbit device? In regards to your watch not holding its battery, follow the tips mentioned here: Can I extend my Fitbit device's battery life?

Since you mentioned that now you need to enter your PIN everytime you're using your watch, change the setting by doing the following:

  1. In the Fitbit app, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture > your device image.

  2. Tap Device Lock.
  3. Tap to change your device lock setting.

Last but not least, factors such as device placement, dominant or non-dominant hand, and stride length affect the number of steps recorded. If you're pushing a stroller or shopping cart, try putting your wrist-based device in your pocket or use GPS if possible.

If it still seems like your device is undercounting or overcounting steps, try a step test:

1. Put your device on your wrist or put your clip-on device on your hip or torso.

2. Walk 100 steps, making sure to count a step each time one of your feet hits the ground.

3. Pause, then check your device to see your step count.

If your device counted more or less than 100 steps, restart the device and try the step test again. For details, check this article

Hi Silvia,

Thanks for your response. It’s all a moot point now, I had to contact Customer Service. The issues were not discreet problems or user error. They were all related to - and started after -the iOS app upgrade. That said, Before contacting customers service, I found a similar post deeper in the forum and followed the instructions there, e.g turn off tracker, turn off Bluetooth on Iphone, log out of app, restart iPhone, restart Ionic, reconnect Bluetooth on iPhone, sync Ionic and iPhone,  etc. When all that failed, I synced again, and did a factory reset. My Ionic did not restart after the factory reset. It is now officially dead. Hopefully Customer Service can provide resolution.

@SeeKristinaGo Thanks for getting back. I appreciate that you mentioned you contacted our Support team. Each case is reviewed individually and the option provided is based in the Fitbit Warranty

And Silvia I would recommend people should take this into account when buying a Fitbit. It is fine when it is working but once out of warranty is not likely to last that long. So assume you are making a two year purchase and if you are happy that 2 years represents value for money at the price, then go ahead. Mine started giving similar problems to the above just before it's second birthday and the problems have only become more frequent despite numerous full factory resets, removal of all apps, turning off bluetooth. The most ironic thing is that my €200 watch now doesn't even keep the time correctly  (time wrong after every lock up)  while my 20 year old wrist watch is still working with a new battery every two years or so.
