I finally managed to get some podcasts loaded onto my Ionic. I don't see any controls to fast forward or rewind within a track. It seems like a basic feature, surely I'm just missing how to control it.

I don't think there are any. It seems to be designed more with music in mind (where you wouldn't likely rewind/fast forward, just skip to the next track), rather than podcasts.

surely, one of the first new apps available will be a podcast app ....?

Please please fitbit add a fast forward (even a skip 30s back and forward would be fine). Also like podcasts and thought I'd discovered the perfect device for them when exercising or even trying to stick out the steam room after..but nothing worse than going back to the beginning of a 2 hour podcast when you were 30mins in....especially as it doesn't seem to remember where you got to if you exit the app.
So basic!

Still no fast forward, as far as I can tell. Basic, basic stuff.

Yes, wish they could add this feature as listening to podcasts / audio books is out of the question without a basic 'bookmarking' or fast forward / rewind functionality. I bet a lot of people buying the Ionic expect to be able to do this.
Now of course, if they could support BBC Iplayer!!

this is pretty brutal. I can't listen to audiobooks while running because they start over every time. What is this made for?
