I regularly use the stairmaster at the gym. I activate the Stair Climber exercise activity when I start, but it doesn't register most steps. It might show 150 steps out of 2,200 actual steps. If I strap it to my ankle, it works. Why does this thing accurately count steps with very little motion when I'm holding onto a shopping cart handle, but it can't count steps while vigorously using a stair climber???

It needs to see the arms swinging. Holding on to bars will not count steps

I put mine on my shoe on the stairmaster, just on my shoe laces. Same for the spin bike. I'm use it's not as accurate as walking and running, but I can't be on the stairmaster for 40+ minutes and get zero steps for that. 🙂
Thanks to you both. Like I said, it still registers steps when my arms are not swinging while pushing a shopping cart (somehow), yet doesn't see steps on stairmaster. I may be holding onto the pulse counter, but my arm is still moving quite a bit, much more than in the grocery store. Very annoying. Strapping onto ankle (vs shoe) works well for me because I still get the pulse-rate graph.
Best AnswerThanks for asking what I was gonna ask about 😊 1500 steps give me under 500 steps on fitbit. Regardless where my arms are placed. To bad that it needs to be placed on the ankle because I like to see my heart rate. Stair climbing then my puls are vere high all the time.
