Ionic not receiving notifications

i have just got the ionic watch, and trying to get notifications to come through i am having some difficulty.

It worked fine when initially set up, but then stopped receiving any notifications.

i have followed amny steps i can find online etc, changed battery optimisation settings on phone, reinstalled the app. 

i have a feeling its when my phone connects to my car bluetooth system that when i leave my car it no longer receives these. 

using android huawei p20

any help rectifying please?

i had this issue with my charge 2 but was too bothered about receiving them on that.
