Ionic pairing and syncing issues

Does anyone else have issues with their Ionic?

Problem 1:

At various times and frustratingly intermittently, the thing won't pair with Bluetooth for syncing. I have tried this with an iPad and a PC (using Fitbit store app). It won't pair with either of those. The iPhone is the only thing I could get it to pair with at all and this quit working after trying unsuccessfully to pair it with the PC and iPad (again).

Problem 2:  It started reporting Floors wrong. It has some crazy large number and I know I did not have that much elevation gain.

I've restarted numerous times and factory reset several times but that one gets old because of the required reconfiguration.

This thing was a gift but I'm not sure whether its been a gift or a curse at this point.

Anyone have any experience on making this thing work reliably - mostly with the pairing. I can ignore the Floors issue.

Thanks,

Bob

Returning this headache!

I feel your pain. I wish I could return mine, but as I say, it was a gift (actually a performance "prize") from work w/o option to return for refund. I've had nothing but problems, too. No more Fitbit products, ever.

Hey Bob,

“Anyone have any experience on making this thing work reliably - mostly with the pairing.”

Yeah had similar problems including that pop-up saying “Unable to connect to Ionic” a while back.

Found that you need to make sure all other BT devices are turned off.  Then need to restart and unpair everything.  Maybe a couple of other repeat random steps as well.  Finally it should pair up.  Once it does -> the connection seems stable.  Whether on Android or Apple.

But do remember how frustrating is was thinking back.  Sometimes had a mind of its own and would also randomly lose WIFI connectivity.  Recently tho it pairs up within a couple of seconds and syncs up in about 10 seconds more.  Consistently.

Try that -> otherwise call the number below.  So try restarting.  Try Shutting down.  Try resetting to new only as a last resort.  Unpair everything and start fresh.

Really there is no need to suffer in Frustration - simply call Tech Support at 877-623-4997 and get your Ionic replaced right now while you can
Many have followed this straightforward advice and now have a replacement Ionic - we all should have “zero tolerance” for any defective Ionic

No matter what I do, I can't get mine to sync. Have done two full hard reset and few other tweaks, still no love.

I feel your pain... Biggest **ahem** ever. The Charge 2 I replaced it with
was flawless - in my experience - never an issue. I may retire the
Ionic and go back to the Charge 2. The only thing I like about the
Ionic is the alarms - which I use heavily.

You might try going out into the middle of nowhere and try
pairing/sync'ing. What I discovered was that literally ANY other BT
device in proximity bungles things up. If you live in an apartment,
for instance, its tough to ask all your adjacent neighbors to please
power down all their BT devices.

Yuck!

Hi @weakionic and @Lulides nice to see you here. Welcome to the Forums @BilgeRatPDX. Thanks for for your support @Whistler888.

Thanks for all the steps that you've tried @weakionic. I can see why you're feel that way, I've requested a new case for you. You will be contacted shortly to receive help with your Ionic, you can request the information that you need from them.

@Lulides Thanks for your feedback and for sharing those pictures, I noticed that you have a case already open for this. Our team has sent you some important information via email.

@BilgeRatPDX I appreciate the time you've taken to try those steps. Please check some requirements that your phone and Ionic should have in order to successfully communicate:

Requirements:

  • Phone should be a compatible device check our list of compatible devices
  • The phone must be bonded with their tracker
  • Bluetooth service must be turned on
  • For Android phones: to help improve the delivery, go to Notifications and make sure Enable Notification Widget is on. If you recently updated the Fitbit app, reboot your mobile device and try setting up notifications again.
  • Make sure the Do Not Disturb setting on your mobile device is turned off because it prevents the device from sending notifications to your tracker.
  • The software on your mobile device is updated. To check, tap Settings > General > Software Update iOS for Android  Settings > About phone > Android Version.
  • The Bluetooth setting on your mobile device is on. To check, tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  • If you use more than one Bluetooth phone, tablet, or computer to sync, the other one isn't nearby (or has Bluetooth disabled).
  • Your tracker's battery should be fully charged.

If the syncing issue remains with a mobile device I would recommend following the steps below:

  1. Restart your tracker a couple of times and make sure that it is fully charged
  2. Reboot your phone and check that you phone and Fitbit App is up to date
  3. Open Bluetooth Settings on your phone and delete your Ionic from there (forget device)
  4. Open Fitbit App > Account > Ionic > Remove device (tap on the trash can in the upper right corner)
  5. Reboot your Bluetooth and double check that it is not connecting from there
  6. Force quite the App. Open it again Account > Set up a device

In case of having an Android phone, also check your phone Permissions and leave location on to keep syncing and getting notifications with your phone, for more info check this suggestions from @ErickFitbitSmiley Wink

Hope this helps.

Mine is doing this. Frustrating. I have no idea what to  do

I have found the only way to fix it is to reboot both devices. First the phone then the watch.
