Ionic replying with multiple text message when touching Reply in Ionic only once

I have a brand new (purchased 12/24/2018) Samsung S9 (using the Apple Pie operating system). I've had the Ionic since October 2018. In just the last week when responding to a text message on my Ionic (touching Reply just once), the Ionic is sending back multiple messages - all the same. At first, it was two text messages. Today, it set back three messages. It is just repeating the same message. My phone uses the default Messages app that came with the phone.

I guess my first question is how do you get your text messages on the Ionic?  I get my phone calls but I've never received my text messages and thought maybe I misread it when I bought it.

On the Ionic phone app, click on the ionic watch icon (upper right hand corner next to the battery icon). Then, scroll down and click Notifications --> then click Text Messages and ensure Messages is On. I think that should do it. If not, give Fitbit Customer Service a call (877 623 4997). I've found them to be very helpful.
