Have you tried swiping to the settings app on your Ionic and adjusting the brightness in there?

Dear @Kyhnæb, I have had a similar problem with my Ionic.
I restarted it and it seemed to work for some more hours. Next, it started to exhibit the same (weak light) behavior again.
Some days later, it turned off and was not able to start (it stopped on the fitbit logo for hours/days). Only some more days later, it died/stopped working definetively and fitbit said "well, your ionic is out of warranty" (for only 3 months); so, fitbit can do nothing.
Please, if you check out the forum's posts, you will see a tons of users claiming that their ionic died in the last weeks, which I call as programable obsolescence
