Ionic step count different on watch and app

The steps count on my account is completely different on the watch and the app. 
for example on 25th March over 20,000 steps was completed which displayed on the once but after syncing on the app it’s only showing 16,000.

Today over 16,000 on the watch but the app is only reporting 13,000. 
why is that happening? Only started doing that this week

I'd like you to confirm that there are no manually logged activities that could be overriding the Ionic data. If you're still experiencing this after checking your activities, let me know if this just started happening.
