Just a word for those who say that their fitbit Ionic doesn't track the "Steps" on your device... Perhaps first of all, one should read their manual.. Secondly, it is Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018 @ 10:40am Atlantic time... I just updated my firmware to my Fitbit Ionic aprox. 10 hours ago. My suggestion would to find a set of stairs, (aprox 12+ or better) make sure you have "Steps" (with the little staircase beside) start climbing up and then down the staircase. when you get to a certain step please pay close attention to your count. NO, the device does NOT count every step but instead it counts the sets. SO in other words, you climb up to the top step (or landing) and back down to the base or landing and you will see that your Ionic will have counted "1" Do this several times and you will notice that it is the number of times you climb the stairwell before it counts to 2, 3, 4.....The counter counts SETS not individual steps.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @Shinsplinter63! Thanks for taking the time to share your findings about the step count on Fitbit Ionic.
If you're having discrepancy with your step count, first make sure the wrist placement settings are correct. Next, double check that you entered your height correctly. Since we use height to estimate your walking and running stride lengths, you may want to measure and manually adjust these values if your legs are longer or shorter than average.
Sometimes, when you start walking you may notice that your steps may not update on your device right away. After about 10-15 continuous steps, you'll notice the steps catch up and start updating in real-time with each step you take.
To get more information about this, check the article: How accurate are Fitbit devices?
Hope this helps, I'll be around if you need further assistance!
