Today, my Fitbit I brought on the 21st of December 2017 stopped working.
I have tried everything to revive it but to no avail. I just read that it seems many people are having this issue. I am about to go to the store tomorrow to exchange it for a new one but it concerned me that some people have obtained replacements only to have it break as well. I brought the Ionic from Harvey Norman.
I absolutely loved the smart watch but now I am a little disappointed. My old change 2 has survived treks up volcanos and still is alive and yet the Ionic dies while I am reading.
I am happy to return it and downgrade for a newer charge 2. I could buy two actually and give one to a friend at the price of the ionic..
Thoughts anyone?

There had already been periodic glitches, particularly when updating or syncing, but I got though those okay. A few days ago I successfully added an alarm just before going to be bed. When I woke up the Ionic was dead, with a black screen. A few years ago I had a Charge which failed early, but I thought Fitbit might have learned its lessons, so I bought an Ionic. I was wrong as can be seen by comments from many others on this forum. This time I will jump to a Samsung.

Earlier in the thread someone suggested it has a leak and the water eventually damages the watch. I've used mine for swimming too and now it has stopped working!
There are suggestions on here that there is water ingress on the Ionic. Can you categorically confirm this is not the case before I have it professionally checked?
Hi there. Great to hear from you again RicardoFitbit. Just to confirm all of your responses, tips and help have been completely pointless. I'll be spreading the word on social media how Fitbit are selling an expensive piece of kit that is not fit for purpose.
Be seeing you

I have always taken the Ionic off before getting in the shower or in the hot tub. And this is Southern California, so rain is not a problem either. Of course the unit is supposed to handle being under water but I never relied on that claim.

Fitbit really needs to improve their products. My Ionic failed like the OP's after 13 months and thankfully I was sent a goodwill replacement in March 2019. Yesterday the screen went dead and it is completely unresponsive like my original.
It looks great and has the features I want however the quality is terrible.

I was re-gifted a fitbit Ionic after my Charge HR stopped working after 5 years. The previous owner never used it and after utilizing the 'new' ionic for 2 months it also stopped charging. I tried all of the troubleshooting solutions in the forum, yet nothing works. It was purchased in 2017 so fitbit will only give me a 25% discount, even though the watch was barely worn and this appears to be a perpetual issue with the wearable. I love that the fitbit app is user friendly, however I'm heartbroken that I'm having similar issues with a brand new watch that was purchased at $300. Does anyone know if the newer fitbit watches have this issue? Is this an issue with HR monitoring watches in general?

I have mine in my drawer, still wondering why this defective product has
been allowed to be sold after everyone experienced the same disfunctions.
$300.00 for a paperweight. I have informed on my social media and platforms
that sell the beware notice.

I think that they still have the problem. The Ionic is just a poorly made device. After mine failed in 13 months the replacement failed in 3 months. Get a Garmin.

They definitely still have the problem. My original Ionic died 2 weeks ago, after 9 months of use. They sent me a replacement and it didn't even survive the setup process. A 2nd replacement is on its way. This product is a disaster. I can't believe they haven't discontinued it yet.

Trout-Lilly, it appears the newer Versa's also have the same Ionic issues. Can't speak to the lower tier models though.

Third Ionic for me, first one just died, second one the screen decided to fade. Hoping this third one will last the course but not holding out much hope. Great customer service and marketing but the end user product is flawed.

I found a YouTube video that fixed mine. Hold all three buttons down until the Fitbit Icon shows. Then plug it in to charge.

My Ionic stopped working while I was on a 100 mile bike trip in very cold weather, so it was covered up by layers of clothing, and I was sweating a lot. After returning from the trip, I cleaned the tracker, kept it plugged in overnight, then did the two-button reset. It turned on after 10 seconds holding down the buttons, and I will see how it goes from here on. For one, I suspect that I drained the battery after only about 30 miles into the trip (GPS on), and I believe the tracker was getting very steamy sitting on my wrist covered up by multiple layers of clothing. I will be doing much shorter rides for the next week and will monitor my tracker's functioning more closely---track the tracker. This is the first time that this tracker died on me. I'm grateful that it turned on again.

Today I called customer support, as my Ionic started to act up. It seem to me that the battery may have been going bad. The screen was acting up as well. So, after a short brief the on the phone with customer support, I was told that they were going to send me an email with instructions for a replacement. This is our second ionic that has going bad for me and the wife ( my was just over two years and the wife was just over four months ). She also had two versa lite that went bad shortly after a year or so. The email offer a 35% discount on my next Fitbit watch. I had contemplating an iWatch since the came out but like the sleek look and low profile of the ionic. This will be the last time I buy or recommend Fitbit watch products. I guess I will try the IWatch now.
