Ionic verses Charge 3

I bought a second Ionic so I would have one to wear when the other is charging. And if one broke I would have the other. Fitbit would not allow me to have 2 Ionics at one time. So gave the 2nd Ionic away. Bought a Charge 3. Seems you can't have an Ionic and Charge 3 at the same time either.WHY????

It seems that the problem is only with the more recent models. Fitbit say:

"Note that you can't connect multiple devices that use the Fitbit App Gallery to one account. For Fitbit Charge 3, Fitbit Ionic, Fitbit Inspire series, and Fitbit Versa series, only connect one of these devices to your account at a time."

I've not seen any further explanation than that but it does seem there's no way round the issue.
