Ionic will not calibrate

I bought a new ionic this week. After fully charging it, it will not "calibrate".  I have taken it out of the band and laid it every possible way on flat surfaces and it will not work. Steps are counting appropriately but the HR sensor does not work, which is one of the main reasons I purchased it.  Why will it not calibrate?

I'm not sure why it will not calibrate, but this should be unrelated too the heart rate sensor.

 

Have you checked the settings on the tracker to see if the heart rate is set to on?

The HR sensor is set to on, but it hasn't worked at all. I've tried
restarting the device multiple times with no success.

Some have reported that setting up the tracker fixes this.
