Ionic won’t charge

Ionic hasn’t been used in a year and went to start it up again and it won’t charge. It shows 0% when first plugged in but then after about 5 minutes on charge won’t display anything.  I’ve cleaned the contact points as suggested, can’t restart because won’t turn on.  I’ve left it charging for 2 hours and yes it’s the original charger.  The amount these things cost, you would think they would last a lifetime - not just a year or 2.  Any more suggestions to rectify this charging problem?
