Ionic won't sync with BOSE Free wireless headset

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

When trying to use the ionic to play music on my Bose Free wireless headphones it will only sync with  one piece of the headset but the other piece won't. You have to unpair the device, shutdown the ionic and then turn it back on. Then you have to pair it again in order to hear it on both headphone pieces. It works perfectly on my Fitbit Blaze but the Ionic it won't pair it. Is there a update available to correct this issue.

I’m having the same issue. It works fine on my IPhone so it’s not Bose. The confusing part is that the earbuds worked on my Fitbit ionic fine, and then just decided not to. Pairing not an issue. Right ear works, left ear doesn’t. I don’t know what to do. I shut down Fitbit, unpaired, paired but no luck. Any solutions on your side?

I've had no problems the last few weeks.  Be sure you have the latest firmware updates for both the Ionic and the Bose.  The only other tip I have is when I was having trouble I found that if I paired with my iPhone then disconnected from the iPhone using the bluetooth menu in iOS, leave the Bose turned on and then pair with the Ionic that usually brought both earbuds online.  That's a nuisance but it did seem to work.

I'm aware that this thread is more than a year old, but here in November 2019, I'm also experiencing this issue ONLY with BOSE!

My Ionic will pair with every other Bluetooth device. It pairs with my Galaxy S8, S9, iPod Nano 7G, iPod 5, my HP laptop, AND my custom-built desktop PC with Bluetooth. It also pairs instantly with my Beats Studio Wireless Pro headphones with no issues whatsoever (I'd prefer to use the Beats, but the battery no longer charges, so trying to use the Bose right now).

The Ionic will pair with virtually every other Bluetooth device EXCEPT ANYTHING BOSE. It just spins and spins on the Ionic with message on screen saying "Pairing Bose" forever. Nothing happens. It just spins.

What up with this?!?!?!

UPDATE: I just got off the phone with Fitbit support. The support rep initially said "there are no known connectivity issues," but I suspected that she was in "first tier" support, and honestly, the first level of support at most larger tech companies don't seem to know very much in general, except walking people through basic troubleshooting steps (unpair, reset, hard-reset, etc, etc). All to no avail.

Anyway, I asked her to consult with a supervisor, and lo and behold, the supervisor said that there IS A KNOWN ISSUE with certain headphones after the most recent Ionic firmware update. Apparently, it's not just the Bose brand!

Sadly, like most large tech companies, it seems like the larger they are, the longer it takes for them to fix major/important issues (I do professional tech consulting and deal with tech companies all of the time). So realistically, we won't see a new firmware update addressing these connection issues until late January or early March. Typically it takes large companies 4-6 months to research and address a software glitch/firmware issue. The supervisor could not provide me with an estimated time as to when the firmware issue would be fixed and rolled out.

It's just extremely frustrating, and irritating beyond measure that I bought the Fitbit Ionic solely for the purpose of being able to ditch my large Galaxy S9+ when I lift weights, run, cycle, etc because I could simply store the music on my watch, and not worry about breaking it, "weighing me down" or strapping the big phone to my arm (which gets in the way when doing arm workouts and bench exercises). I'm sorry I'm venting in this last paragraph, but it just really defeats the purpose having an ionic and not being able to use it anymore with headphones for 4-6 months. This is maddening.

Fitbit, you really messed up..
