Many watchfaces already available and some of the apps are really nice

And YES, the Ionic is, in my opinion, a beautiful smartwatch

In my opinion the Ionic is 75% sportwatch 25% smartwatch.

The smartwatch experience is limited because it misses a lot of features that some folks need/want, like a mic on the watch, a speaker, being able to answer to sms or phone calls, being able to access Siri or Google via voice and so on. So if you value more the smart aspect in a watch then you might head to other solutions because the Ionic is not quite to that level.

If you need a sport watch with some smartwatch features, then Ionic might be what you are looking for.

As a relative newly launched watch, like all the other brands out there has teething issues that will be solved after a while.... some patches... you just need patience.

If you don't want  to wait then there are other solutions out there, older watches with a lot more mature software that might work for you.

And to answer your questions :

Music: I did not try, I always carry my phone with me and stream music

Notification : never used those, not interested, my phone is one arms length at all times

Sync : It works for me

What features can make it eligible as a smartwatch?

Maybe that you can customize the watch face, have some additional apps from the newly opened story.

But like I said, it's limited, can't compare it to Apple or Google... so if you need a smartwatch more then a sportwatch the Ionic is not for you.

Music: Works fine for me (I don't use it, as I carry my phone all the time, but I've tested it a couple times and it's fine.

Notifications: 100% (Depends on the phone, though. My Samsung S8 works flawlessly with the watch)

Sync: 90%/10% (but easy to get working if it's the 10%.) I think some people expect Sync to be instantaneous. I've found that if let the phone sit there with the watch, it works.

Watch faces: Quadrant.... shows all my stats, and looks decent.

Apps: I use Yelp, Fitboard, Relax, Calculator, and I'm checking daily for more. I'd like to see one that disables Steps and Stairs for when I'm driving. And if my ability to code in JavaScript were any good, I would try to develop one... but it has been too long.

The fact that you can write apps for the watch makes it a Smart Watch.

It depends on how you look at it and what you need it to do. For me, it's a fine watch.

You don't need to be abel to write apps to be a Smartwatch.

Here is the definition from Dictionary.com, as the Blaze was a Smartwatch as well:

a computing device that resembles a wristwatch and is attached to aband worn around the wrist:

Music works fine.....and you don't need music to be a smartwatch.

Notifications are okay, no different from the Blaze.

Sync has NOTHING at all to do with a Smartwatch.

I totally agree with you. Fitbit Customer Service is one of the best around. Also the support with the Twitter account is always available.
