I would recommend pre-ordering the All-New Fitbit Ace for kids 8+.
Link: Fitbit Ace Pre-Order
Come in two colors: Power Purple and Electric Blue.
It's pretty much a spin-off of the Alta HR but for kids!

@Sports-lover Great to hear from you!
For purposes of child privacy and protection, Fitbit requires that all registered users be at least 13 years old. So I am not able to recommend Ionic for children that are younger than 13.
You can learn more about Fitbit's minimum age requirements by checking out our terms of service.
Hope this helps!

We just bought 3 Ionics for our kids - the retailer knew they were purchased for kids and now we can't set them up correctly! The terms of service say that under 13 require permission from a parent or guardian under relevant laws but the app does not provide for this...

Return them and buy a Garmin. I'm regretting staying in the Fitbit ecosystem this long, kids, wife, and all. While Fitbit used to be one of the font runners in the health tracker field they have lost their edge and are unable to keep with the times of kids and their parents wanting the kids active. Personally I regret daily not returning the preordered ionic and paying the higher price for at least a functional device like the Fenix for myself and one of the vivos for my son (he is an avid runner and does 10k and 10milers, before I get bashed I don't push him he does it on his own...)

Just now entering into the world of the Ionic for my kid and finding out that this is a problem...it seems that this is an issue that needs to be dealt with...? I can"t believe I've spent the entire morning dealing with this, 3 hours approximately! Recommending the Fitbit Ace is not an acceptable answer! Does anyone else have a newer current solution?

Although late, I would suggest if you are an iOS user, and your child has an iOS 13 supported device. Buy a GPS only Apple Watch series 3 Nike+.

Hi, thanks for the reply....Some back story on this... my son received a very nice gift of the ionic from a family friend, he's a responsible 10 year old that is very active. He absolutely loves his brand new ionic fitbit. Being that it's our first fitbit in the family, we tried setting it up for him. He uses my old iphone 6 at home on wifi only. All he wants to do is track his own progress. not compare with anyone or communicate with anyone else. Although I appreciate your assistance, your reply does not align with our situation.

Ah, I see what you mean. You can prevent your child from using communication features by ensuring they are not adding people as friends or using the community tab of FitBit.

I'm not concerned about him adding friends...I just want the ionic to work for him at his age...I'm still confused as to why this is like this. Fitbit seems to be missing the mark with their software engineering. Something you typically don't encounter in this day and age of products...I guess when you use apple products, they set the bar higher and reality sets in when you use other products.

My boy has some great moments with the Fitbit Ace. Its water-resistant and 5 days of battery life.
