Is text for testers from 'Fitbit' real?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi I have received a text from "fitbit" saying

"testers needed!! you have been randomly selected to test and keep for free our new Fitbit ionic smartwatch" click on below link and choose your favourite color.

Is this for real, I am new to Fitbit so not sure if they do supply new products to be tested.

Or is this "too good to be true"???????

Katie

Do you already own a Fitbit device and if not, how would have Fitbit gotten your number?  Ionic has been out since Oct, why would they need testers on a product that is already being used? I wouldn't click any links.

Everyone who's purchased an Ionic has been a beta tester. Why would they start giving them away?

Hi Yes I have a Charge 2 tracker - actually I have had original tracker replaced 3 times due to overcounting steps!!!!  So Fitbit does have my number. I haven't clicked on the link.

Thank you very much!!

I have emailed two different email addresses at Fitbit Australia, in last 5 days,  but had no reply, so fingers crossed we get a response.

@tweety59 I am not aware of any Fitbit promotions that involve sending text messages to customers. This sounds like spam, and I would recommend not ever clicking links sent by numbers you don't know.

It actually arrived as text from "Fitbit" -- not from an unknown phone number which is why I thawt might be legit, and because I had so much trouble with my Charge 2 tracker, I thawt Fitbit maybe sending me a different tracker to try/test.  But the link didn't have word fitbit in it which made me suspicious so I didn't click on it. So thawt I'd put it on the community board and see if anyone else had received same text.

Thank you everyone for your feedback!!!!

Well if the message was signed by thawte then it should be legit.

I received the "offer" today. The Bit.ly URL expands to http://au-wristband-ionic.l.amazando.co. which fails a reverse lookup.

Hi Katie,

I've had the exact same text message... unfortunately it looks too good to be true!

Cheers and thanks for adding this, meant I could quickly find out if it was bs or not.

Cheers,

Arlie

I also got this text and went through it.

It's a survey asking all it personal details and your housing details like gas and electric providers and mobile phone contracts. It's also full of spam of similar offers with iPhone. I went through with giving my number but that's it so my guess I'm gonna get calls for afew weeks.

Hi AF-T,

So glad I did too.  Ive still not  heard from Fitbit at all, I thought they might want to deal with phishing texts/emails. Shame if turns out to be bs!!

I responded to you here, just a few hours after your original post - sorry if you missed it. The best way to deal with spam is to report it to your carrier or a relevant governing body like the US FTC. Fitbit has no governance over the text messages you receive, and isn't in a position to handle this directly.

Hi Matthew,

Yes I did read your response, what I was after from Fitbit was a response of 'no,  tho txt came thru as "Fitbit", it isn't from us' or 'yes, we are doing this promotion'.

As text didn't arrive in my inbox from unknown number but as coming from 'fitbit' I didn't know if it  was spam or not, hence I contacted fitbit, when that failed I went onto this community. When I have received spam emails supposedly from Paypal, Telstra Australia, National Australia Bank,  etc I have contacted  the companies and they asked for emails to be forwarded to their phishing address so they could investigate origins. I thought Fitbit may want to do same.

Please don't think I ignored your original post.
