Issue syncing w/Strava

I was dumb enough to buy a Ionic after the screen cracked on my surge.  Took 6 hours to get the **ahem**ed thing to set up.  Once it was set up I found that it will NOT sync with Strava, and it requires a totally separate page to log activities, WILL NOT work with my current Fit bit page, WILL NOT register on any Fit Bit account other than the special one set up just for it !.  Everything I do I log on Strava, a work out computer that does NOT link with Strava is a waste.  So yeah, I am more than a bit pissed off.  It's not like these things are cheap.  So for now I am stuck using my Blaze which has no GPS but at least it works and I can use on Connect.  Buy at your own risk.

You might have said this too soon. You will know when you get jinxed. The current release is full of issues.

You’re not alone, man. This watch is pure garbage. No music will sync, pandora doesn’t sync, and Bluetooth headphones won’t pair even though it says “paired” The first one I got on Oct 2nd worked fine for like 2-3 weeks than all the problems happened at once. Returned it got a new one and all the same problems but right out of the gate.

 No problems on my side, my ionic works perfectly fine, as for strava

Under settings, for strava, you need to authorise strava for your fitbit/ionic, if you don't authorise, it wont work

I’m sorry you are having big problems.  I haven’t had any major problems thus far with any of what you have. Have you started a chat with Fitbit?  Any problem I have had with any of my trackers (Charge and Surge) have been solved by them. Or they sent me one that worked.

Seeing all these issues being posted has made me a little worried about my Ionic arriving tomorrow. Good to see others posting that they are not having issues.

For those not having issues, how long have you had your Ionic?

You have the option of returning it unopened. You are betting on uncertainty. But good luck with your setups. I didnt have setup issue. I had to wait for a while to get a screen protector before beginning to use it. First few days were fine but one fine day, issues started coming up. Unlike most others I don't even use music weather etc. I am unable to use it for exercise monitoring.  You have to have the attitude of ignore all issues and assume this is the new future. My mind refuses to do so and I continue to use my Blaze in the hope that the issues will be resolved in a s/w update.

For those not having issues, how long have you had your Ionic?

I have my watch for almost 2 weeks.

I had some problems but nothing major.

- updating the watch went well and it did not get stuck as some complained

- it also went reasonably fast - as some complained that it took a very long time

- downloaded the app, logged in and added the watch, and synced - all went well and from the first try

- changed the watch face - several times to check a few - all went well, did not encountered any issues.

- went cycling a few times - the GPS ate 10% over an hour and the GPS accuracy was good

- the HR monitoring for me was fine from 55 to 125 BPM - unfortunately when my HR went past 125 HR it lost it's accuracy, as my heart was racing at 160 bpm the watch could only display that my heart was at 145 bmp. So far it is my only real issue.

- Sleep monitoring it's good for me 

- I did not sync music on it so can't comment on that

- i had sync issues several times, I am manually syncing the watch as I don't need, use or want notifications so when I was manually syncing the app had a hard time finding or connecting to the phone frequently asking me to reset the bluetooth connection. The only fix that I found was to disable the "All-day Sync" from the app... after that all went well, detected the Ionic each time and synced fine.

Why is that even relevant if yours is fine? Do you feel special? And no, there’s more problems than those who don’t have them. Keep looking on the forums. Stop being annoying. This is not even a $100 product but is priced at $300.

You will see mixed responses in community forums. An issue is an issue, it can be a show stopper for one while other may not even be using the feature or data it generates and perception differs. Of all the issues let me describe an annoyance. No matter what, ionic prefers to set itself back to "Screen Awake" manual and as such I am having to swipe / tap / press a button to see the time. It is such an annoyance and wanting to know the time doesn't have to be that complicated; it happens as a result of an unknown defect somewhere. Yet, for someone else it may not be a big deal and they may frustrate me by saying "press the button" and move on. 

There is no need to be frustrated with it. Some folks unknowingly play with the emotions which is pretty normal in social media. What we need is an intelligent debate and not an apologetic attitude defending the vendor nor lose sleep over the issues. Hopefully all of the issues will be fixed in a future update. Vendors make errors and it is just the way how the industry works. Perhaps we should have chosen to wait. As far me I liked the appearance of the watch and it had a GPS facility which Blaze doesn't have. I have a Surge with built in GPS but it is ugly compared to ionic (in my taste).

Don't be quiet. Continue bringing along the issues, so dev team / support team knows about any new issues. It does look like most issues are common and many people seem to have similar types of issues.

It worked great for like 2 weeks, still, the price to me did not justify the product. Then problems started, all at once. Wouldn’t pair with my Bluetooth earbuds, would show “no pandora account” when the app showed the loading bar blue and my stations. Wouldn’t sync my own music, “not enough space” when the watch said 2,000 + mb available (I tried loading 50 songs) not counting stair... I mean every possible thing went wrong, so, I sent that back and got a new one two days ago... Same **ahem** problems. I’m over it, spending the extra $30 for an Apple Watch. Something tells me fitbit rushed this product, knowing that it wasn’t even close to being stable or ready for a quick cash grab to raise their stocks that were failing.

Don't make a rash decision. Verify Apple doesn't have similar issues. virtually there is no review on ionic that highlights the issues. Every review has been so positive until you see the issues in user forums.

As far me, I am not even into this music stuffs / notifications etc. I feel pinned. 

I am not sure how you would gain access to apple watch forum without owning their product but you can review the negative comments on amazon and other relevant social sites.

Thanks and yes, electronics, especially new to the market have issues but the ionic has more issues by a landslide than any new product I’ve ever gotten from Apple or any other electronics brand. And yes, the forums. I was so disappointed thinking I was the only one who had this plethora of issues because I would google it and nothing would come up except reviews and the occasional forum post. I had to dig and I found endless complaints just like the ones I was having. The ionic even if it did work well, still isn’t worth $300, no way. That will remain. It’s maybe worth $150 if it worked flawlessly, and that’s pushing it.

The reviews on Ionic were mixed, due to lack of smartwatch capabilities. Only a few reviews go into the level of detail where Ionic issues are discussed.

I always tell people to buy and try, as long as you can return the device that is best way to determine what works best, for you. I've got a friend with Ionic, to be gracious I'd say its rough around the edges. Text notifications in particular, would stop me dead in my tracks and sending it back. So I'm waiting before giving it try. I've been using an Apple Watch for 2+ years, after 2 years or so with Fitbit it took a little mental adjustment but even on my older 1st gen watch its pretty darn good for what I want from a "fitness on the wrist" device. But I'm a cyclist, weight lifter, and dog walker so you might see things differently.

If you are a Fitbit fan and want the latest and greatest from Fitbit then its worth dealing with those rough edges. Again as a Fitbit fan you wouldn't think to look beyond to Samsung, Garmin, Apple, etc. Maybe you are just using Ionic as a fancy step/activity/sleep/HR logger, and don't notice the rough edges. 

I'm waiting awhile before giving the Ionic a try, its a good foundation but the rough edges need work. Based on yesterday's statements from Fitbit CEO, Fitbit will introduce more smartwatches to the lineup - Fitbit CEO stated yesterday "we are going to have a fuller product lineup of smartwatches, one that coexists side-by-side, not just ones for that we’re upgrading." A big hardware omission on Ionic is speaker and microphone, hoping that gets addressed soon as Fitbit expands smartwatch lineup over time.

I’m using is as a fitness tracker/hr monitor with streaming and music storage capabilities. The tracker is fine, the hr monitor is ok, everything else that I paid $300 for doesn’t even work. So yea, waste of money. Like I said in another post, now having the ionic for a month (2 different ones) it’s definitely not worth $300, no fricken way. Haven’t had a fitbit since the first one but thought they were a respectable reliable company. The ionic was rushed and probably a cash grab.
