Issues with HR, step counter and sleep tracker

I purchased the Ionic mainly for the heart rate monitor, step counter, to track sleep, log food/water and its water resistant build. I absolutely loved my Moto 360, but it stopped working after I got caught in 10 minutes of rain, so I was happy to see this fitness watch seemed to be better suited to withstand liquid.

Unfortunately, the water resistance is the only thing that seems to have met expectations. I've found that the heart-rate monitor is way off.  It'll read 115 when, according to my chest strap monitor and manually taking my pulse, it should read 160.

Several days, the step counter says I've walked 3,000 plus steps by noon. I sit at a desk during the work day and maaaaaaybe hit 1,000 by then.

My sleep tracker will say I'm sleeping when I specifically remember being awake for that time period - and I move around a lot when I do wake up so I'm not sure how the watch doesn't pick that up. Sometimes, it says that it couldn't get detailed info, so I get the basics for sleep.  I've read it's because the watch isn't tight enough, but it's as tight as it will go without cutting off circulation.

In order to track water intake, I can't do that on the watch. I have to open the app on my phone - which I don't always have handy.

My question is - do you think these are things that can be solved with an update, or do you think it's the device itself?  I had high hopes for this watch and one of the only things I've gotten consistent benefit from is the food log - and that's not even the watch, it's the website.

As technology advances it seems more and more can be fixed via software updates.

I think most of the issues can be resolved without a hardware refresh.

Hopefully Fitbit will continue improving the Ionic before shifting focus to the next device.

I have the problem of my Ionic logging thousands of steps when I'm out on my bike. As I'm tracking my rides, Fitbit shouldn't have any difficulty voiding erroneous steps during the activity. If I'm cycling, I'm not walking.

What's the point of a metric that doesn't reflect reality? Give us real steps, not fake steps! (Or at least the option to choose real steps over fake ones...)

Fenix 5 Plus. Previously Ionic and Surge. Google Pixels 3 and 5. Aria. Chromebook. Deezer and Audible.
