It would be easier to log water with my watch. Because it's always on my wrist. And my cellphone isn't always in my pocket. Maybe it's possible to make an app to log water for the fitbit ionic that also syncs with the fitbit app on my cellphone.

After playing around with my ionic, i noticed that if from the clock you...
swipe up to see steps and stats
scroll to the bottom of the list, you will see settings
click and find water
tap to select.
After the next sync you will be able to add the water just by typing the numbers. You don't need a 3rd party app.
Swipe up to check stats
scroll to water, tap the screen
add the amount and tap the check box.
I like it a lot better then the two third party apps I tired.
I agree. If you look at under armours app, it is so easy to add water consumption. This would and should have been a nice feature to be added to the Fitbit OS.
Edit: both water apps are working for me now. Waterlogged show your oz consumed on your wrist in addition to logging to your app, I like having the visual on my wrist because I'm so bad about checking my app. Both are simple to use.

There is a drinks app which includes water, and two water apps. However, neither has connected for me yet so I'm going to see if I can contact the app developers. They do look very easy to use and I hope one works because I never manage to log my water all day by having to open the Fitbit app on my phone.
If you have 3D touch on iPhone you can just press hard on the app and there is a shortcut to add water

You can also move the built-in Today app water stats/log in different places by a long press and then moving the screen to the position you want it to show up. It is very convenient - just be aware that it does not reliably sync over for me, hopefully you won't run into that problem.
I logged water from my watch this way, but it isn't updating and adding it to my account when it is on the app. Everything else has been syncing, but not my water intake.
