I would really like to be able to access the music app during exercise tracking. At the moment there is limited music control when working out but it would be much more useful to be able to select playlist and tracks during my workout. The absence of this feature really does limit the ionic's usefulness

Good suggestions, by the way, what headset are you using to connect to your Ionic. I'm still using my iPhone's ear buds until the Flyer is released/delivered. How is that whole experience working for you???

I have been using my bose earphones with my iPhone for a while now but it's fab to be able to workout with just my watch. So far Bluetooth and playback have been fine but only tested a couple of times as not had it long
While in exercise mode can you hold the top button on the right and get to the music app.
I was doing this yesterday while out for a walk. Or are you looking for a bit more functionality than exists when you do this. I too like to change the music up while exercising.
Yes I have found this option but it would be much better if we could access the music app features from this option. I have different play lists for different parts of my workout and so normally I switch them on my phone. I also like to be able to scroll through the playlists and select which song I want sometimes.
Love my ionic and the music feature but it could be so much better (which I'm site will come as it takes off)
Finally. Been looking how to change music while exercising for a day now. Now, wish I could change playlist while exercising that would definitely be a nice addition. If it is already possible and I just don't know how can someone please reply:)

Hi - sadly this isn't not an option at the moment - the only option is to stop workout, change playlists and restart another workout. I so hope they do add this feature soon as love the ionic but gutted you can't change playlists during your workout.
I too have been trying everything to gain access to the music app while in the workout app to select specific songs... At least now I know it is a known issue. Hope the next firmware update addresses this.
Is anyone having a problem with maintaining the connection to music while running? My wireless, generic bud work just fine with my IPhone, and they initially worked with the Ionic, but recently the connection drops. I'm at a loss..........
FitBit team ... is this being worked on in the next release... so without stopping the exercise program you can fully control the music?
Also helpful would be with the pulldown music menu to be able to get to the playlists and songs.
Best AnswerI would try disconnecting them from Bluetooth on your phone and reconnecting them to Ionic. I had the same issue as my bluetooth headphones were always searching for my phone first. This prevented them from connecting to anything else.
Best AnswerI've been experiencing the same thing: connection to headphones dropping after about 20 minutes of running. I'm using beatsX. The first time I ran with the music app it was fine, but in the two runs after that, I lost the connection after twenty some minutes.
I experienced this for the first time today while trying to complete my longest run to date. It was very disappointing to have to end my exercise to change my playlist. Then, at the end, instead of one giant, satisfying, you ran X miles today it was split in two different sessions.
I stitched these together in Strava, which was very cool.
My future workaround was to add the album I wanted to listen to first, before changing to my general running playlist, to that running playlist and move it up to the top. So, next time, I'll play it from the beginning until the album is over, then switch it to random so I can hear the rest of my music.
