My Ionic has a mind of its own, it goes for walks without leaving home. I left my Ionic alone on its charging cable at 7,000 steps and I come back later to find that it has completed another walk of equal distance. I want to thank the Fitbit team for creating such a wondrous device. You should charge extra for this feature.

Give it a restart by pressing and holding the left and bottom buttons until you see the fitbit logo, then check if it counts steps again. If it does, ask for an exchange, as it could be damaged.

I will share my solution as Deanny, a Fitbit rep, suggested a series of troubleshooting steps.
It was suggested that I make sure that where I was charging my Ionic did not have any equipment that could cause vibrations. I had been charging near and on top of my desktop computer which apparently was enough for my Ionic to record steps that had not been taken. So, I did two tests each lasting approximately 5 minutes. The first was on top of my computer plugged into a usb hub connected to the computer. The results were over 100 erroneous steps recorded. The second was near my computer plugged into the same usb hub. The results again were over 100 steps recorded. The third was in another room plugged into a fast usb charger away from any computer equipment or anything that would cause vibrations. The results were 0 erroneous steps recorded.

Hi, I did try that to no avail. However, my problem only occurred when I was charging. See my solution below.

I had the same phenomenon while driving today. The screen went all rainbow and congratulated me for a good workout of 3000 steps while I was behind the wheel.
Is anything about the ionic accurate other than time and date?

You see, I have a problem with erroneous steps but it has nothing to do with computers or machines... I have this weird tendency to bounce my leg while sitting. And so I usually end up with some extra steps recorded because of that. I sort of take that into consideration and just mentally expect myself to take 10,500 steps every day to account for the extra ones.
