My Ionic

I purchased the Ionic a couple of months ago to provide some additional support on my renewed weight loss and health focus commitment.

It's a nice product for sure. However, I think it might be a little more than what I personally needed. I had a cheaper Fitbit wristband tracker a few years ago and it was adequate. However, it is what it is now.

A few cons that are probably NOT exclusive to the Ionic:

  • The band has two wristband clasps. The bottom clasp which holds the band in place after you tighten it on your wrist fell off after a couple of weeks of use
  • The BPM monitor which subsequently shows on the dashboard of the phone app is not always accurate. Sometimes the reading is way too high, I know because I've done a finger pulse, and what that does is skew the "Burn" zone calorie calculations.
  • I discovered that the device does not track my steps accurately when pushing a shopping cart around in the store, unless I'm holding my arm down that has the device on it, which is kind of odd to do, pushing a shopping cart in Costco with one arm down! 😉
  • This also applies to driving my car, my big rig commercial truck, mowing my lawn on my John Deere riding mower, etc. It will count steps, sometimes more than others, which is kind of annoying. I really don't have time to adjust the settings, go back and add or subtract accordingly. It's just not that important to me anyways I guess.

A few pros:

  • The device is sleek.
  • The interface and "face" options are nice.
  • I particularly like the notifications option which is synced to my phone messaging, email & text. Being able to look at the device and see who sent me a message without having to pick up my phone is nice.
  • I really like Fitbit's Dashboard on the mobile app. The food logging section leaves a little to be desired, but it serves my purpose.

As I said, many of the loaded and available features like music download, weather, coaching and other add-ons are more than I really needed. Which leads me to believe I should of really thought the buying process through before pulling the trigger and spending the kind of money I did on the Ionic.

Mine is nearly flawless from what I can tell in terms of tracking steps, BPM, etc.  It is well worth the $$ I spent, and I spent significantly less than I would have for other companies' products that include the music function.

Good for you!

As far as tracking steps, the first day I was wearing it I mowed my back acre using my riding mower. It added over two thousand steps, mind you the mowing area is a little bumpy.

I specifically went to Costco to test out how it would work pushing a cart around. I counted over 200 steps (with both hands on the cart) I did and checked the tracker, it logged about 35 steps. Like I said, it's not that big of a deal to me as I'm not a compulsive step tracker Smiley Happy
