My experience with Ionic

The Ionic that I received is terrible.  No help from customer service and can't return product that was purchased less than 10 months ago.  No such thing as a warranty with this watch.  Very disapointed!!

The unit was not abused.  Don't know why you seem to think that it was.  Did not drop, kick, run hot or cold, throw or abuse the watch.  The screen has a crack and I did nothing physically to cause it.  Look at the other comments below.  Seems to be a pattern with this product.  Thanks for the concern.

Placed my wristband on the nightstand to charge and woke up to a cracked Ionic screen. Is this a manufacturing defect? What are my options? Received the Fitbit for Mother's Day.

Would you like to expand on whatever issues you have?

BTW: the ionic isn't sold anymore.

Yes.  The watch does not work and it is only 8 months old.  Was offered 30 % discosunt on a new watch by customer service as a resolution.  Just want to return watch and get different version.  Every trick, reset and help did not get the watch to work.  Very disapointed in Fitbit as a whole.  Moving to different watch from a different company!

@awdub, curious as to why the Ionic did not have the 1-year warranty?  Was is purchased from either Fitbit, or an authorized Fitbit retailer?

Best Answer

I'm still unsure of what the in stated problem is @awdub. If it is physical damage, yes the warranty doesn't cover this.

Let's say the watch does have a broken screen, the cost to repair the screen will be around the 30% off four the Sense.

I had to check. I see your account is 5 months old and you have posts about a cracked screen.

Sorry, but not even the other company warranties physical damage.

The problem is that the Ionic is trash.  Custimer service is zero help and there is no such thing as a warranty with Fitbit.  Saw that the Ionic is not sold anymore.  I wonder why???

The ionic has been replaced by the Versa 3.

Did you ever wonder why Apple doesn't offer the Apple watch version 1, or why you can't by Windows 95?

Your ionic was first released more than 3 years ago. Apple gets upset if their watch lasts more than 3 years. Most businesses upgrade their computers every 3 years.

As for warranty, it is basically the same warranty that Apple supports.

You break the screen, apple will not replace it for free on the watch or the phone.

Physical damage by the user is never covered by the standard warranty. A good reason to purchase the extended version.

Let me try this one more time, I did not break the screen.  It cracked after 5 months and it was not physical damage.  I doubt that a extended warranty would help at all with Fitbit.  You will see that a cracked screen is a common problem with the Ionic.  I hope that the Versa 3 is a better product.  I will not find out because I will never purchase another Fitbit.  Good luck to those who do.

Sorry to see you go, @awdub.  I have not heard of the Ionic screen just cracking on its own, it usually has to be hit against something.  Also haven't seen that a cracked screen is a common problem with the Ionic - of the millions sold, there have been relatively few reports of cracked screens on the forums.  But, regardless, the extended warranty would have covered your Ionic for the physical damage of the cracked screen, and would have provided a replacement.

There are 64 comments about cracked screens on the Ionic that I see.  Even 1 cracked screen is bad no matter how many are sold.  Are you employed by Fitbit?  Would you agree that a regular warranty should cover a cracked face after 5 months of normal use.  I was very disappointed in the product and the customer service.  I just asked for a replacement watch, no refund, just a replacement because of the crack.  In today's world customer service is everything and I see very little support from Fitbit after looking at all of the comments from users.

No, I don't work for Fitbit, or anyone else for that matter - I have been retired for 15+ years, in fact.  No, I would not agree that the warranty should cover cracked screens. The warranty on my cell phone does not cover a cracked screen - the last phone I had got cracked, and I had to buy a new phone totally at my cost.  The warranty on my vehicle does not cover cracked windows or mirrors - when the windshield got cracked by a flying rock, it was up to me to pay the deductible on my car insurance to replace the windshield. I don't know of any company that has a warranty that covers physical damage, unless the buyer takes out insurance against that damage.

Let me try this one final time, I did not break the screen.  It cracked after 5 months and it was not physical damage.  I am not talking about phones or cars.  You could use your logic on anything that breaks. There are others that have had the same issue with the Ionic.  I am glad that it is no longer available.  Great move by Fitbit!!  Now they just need to get customer service to give support to the people that ask for it.  Seems pretty simple to me.  Have a great day.

Ok how did it break. Something had to knock against it? Or did it get so hot or cold that the unit buckled or cracked?

Are you able to find one warranty from any company that will replace a unit that was abused? I only know if one such company.
